In this disconcerting times when engineering colleges are being shut down for various reasons such as lack of admissions, poor infrastructure, low staff-to-student ratio, non-existent placements, and bad results, there are only a handful of institutions that have been able to keep their head above the troubling water; still fewer who take strong powerful laps. Incorporating an adaptive methodology by incorporating feedback from all the stakeholders, a highly evolved, structured, time-tested Teaching- Learning Process (TLP) is in place at RNSIT. For continuous quality improvement of the TLP, senior members of IQAC are entrusted with the responsibility of carrying out the academic audit of the faculty members with regard to their capabilities, preparation, and performance. The academic audit is structured in a systematic and scientific way to review the academic system for improvement of quality. It is a faculty-driven model of ongoing self-reflection, peer feedback, collaboration, and teamwork based on structured conversation to continuously improve quality in teaching and learning.
It is no small feat that within a time span of a decade and half, the institute has created quite a nice for itself. Currently, RNSIT offers UG courses in the following branches: B.E. in Electronics & Communication Engg.(ECE); B.E. in Computer Science & Engg.(CSE); B.E. in Information Science & Engg.(ISE); B.E. in Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering (EIE); B.E. in Electrical & Electronics Engg.(EEE); B.E. in Mechanical Engg. (ME); and B.E. in Civil Engg. (CIVIL), along with PG Courses in M.Tech in Computer Science & Engg.; M.Tech in VLSI Design & Embedded Systems; Master of Business Administration (MBA); and Master of Computer Applications (MCA). In addition to these, RNSIT has six VTU recognized research centers for M.Sc. (Res)/Ph.D. in Computer Science & Engg.; Electronics & Communication Engg.; and Instrumentation Technology.
RNSIT recognizes the importance of promoting the creative and scientific temper among its students. In this regard, RNSIT has encouraged its faculty and students to establish linkages with industry and community. Research facilities are created through grants obtained. Computer and internet facility, time flexibility to meet Guides/persons from industry/academia, QIP facility for pursuing research, encouragement for making paper presentation, etc are all provided for the research scholars at RNSIT. The various research projects currently carried out at RNSIT involves both students and faculty members. The large number of sanctioned and executed students’ projects is an indication of the research culture exhibited in RNSIT. The continuation and improvement in these activities at RNSIT is ensured by the establishment of six VTU recognized Research Centers, MoUs with industries/Institutions, regular conduction of conferences/seminars promoting research, supporting consultancy services, etc. Along the same vein, each department has relevant infrastructure and instruments for basic research work. RNSIT also hosts and provide a forum for several learnt professionals to impart their wisdom to the students. RNSIT understands that a teacher makes a lasting impact in the minds of the students, and hence makes it a point to only recruit the best of the best to adorn its faculty team. As a result, the team now boasts of 31 Doctorates, 74 Ph.D. scholars, and 109 post graduates from various Indian universities with different domain expertise. Quoting Benjamin Franklin, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”, RNSIT employs a judicious mixture of Virtual Laboratories, e-learning, and open educational resources for effective teaching. Enhancement of the videos and animations sourced from national and international sources with live demos from available software are used to illustrate the various involved and abstract concepts, say Visualizing the Hebbian learning process, Perceptron, etc. Extensive use of GUI simulators such as NS2/NS3, LabVIEW, MultiSIM, etc by the faculty members has helped the students in better understanding and visualization of the different concepts in laboratory & project work. Additionally, periodic counseling by the placement officer and senior faculty members regarding higher studies and placement (with career advancement) for different branches has resulted in very good conversion rate in placement, securing high percentile scores in GATE/CAT/GRE exams and every year around 20–30% of students enrolling for higher studies in India and at renowned Institutions across the Globe.
