Spearheaded by the renowned Thirumuruga Kirupananda Variyar Thavathiru Sundara Swamigal Medical Educational and Charitable Trust (TKVTSSMEC Trust), recognized for its three-decade-long commitment to delivering high-quality education across various domains, Annapoorna Engineering College (AEC) embarked on its ambitious journey in 2010, dedicated to nurturing the engineers of today.
A comprehensive account of the history would be inadequate without acknowledging the groundbreaking contributions of Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram, the esteemed Founder Chairman. It is through his generous philanthropy that this College has evolved into a hub for Social Reform movements, Cultural Renaissance, and Intellectual Enlightenment for the youth in this region.

This includes 36 ICT-enabled classrooms, mentor-mentee pairings, and in addition to the standard course offerings, the college actively encourages participation in Value Added Courses, Certificate Courses, and Vocational Educational Training. AEC also houses a well-established incubation center that caters to all departments. Dr. A. Anbuchezhian, the principal of AEC, emphasized that these incubation centers offer valuable opportunities for students to pursue their ambitious projects during our recent discussion with him.
The industrial setting and the practical application of knowledge are highly valued at Annapoorana Engineering College (AEC). The college requires students to complete internships and in-plant training for a total of 30 days each semester in recognition of this necessity. Students also gain insightful hands-on training from industry professionals that focuses on the newest trends and technology developments. Additionally, during our conversation, the principal shared the college’s vision of augmenting its educational approach towards a more Research-Based Learning model, in sync with the evolving educational landscape.
Institutional Milestones and Strategic Collaborations
Annapoorna Engineering College has achieved several significant milestones, including obtaining Autonomous Status recognition from both the UGC and Anna University. Additionally, it has received NBA Accreditation for programs in Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, and Electrical & Electronics Engineering. The institution also holds an esteemed NAAC “A” Grade Accreditation, along with the 2(f) & 12(B) status as per the UGC act of 1956. Furthermore, it proudly bears the ISO 9001:2015 Certification.
