Engineering is one of the most common career choices in India and the alarmingly high number of engineering colleges and students is the clear indicator of that. Looking at the number of colleges and engineers coming out every year, the questions that arise in everybody’s minds are, “is every engineering college capable of producing professionals needed by today’s society?”. Even though the answer to this can vary drastically, the matter of fact is that colleges who guarantee to provide engineering education that meets the needs of human resources of our country will always be the real source, where quality engineers come out – year after year. Thus, talking about one such entity, which strives towards developing leadership qualities, team spirit and concern for environment in students, along with promising an engineering environment which can be cherished BNM Institute of Technology is known for its most modern tech education, while maintaining the rich cultural heritage of our great nation.
Operating under the huge umbrella of B.N.M Educational Institutions, which was founded by Bhageerathi Bai Narayana Rao Maanay Charities in 1972, BNMIT is focused on imparting value based quality education irrespective of social, financial or religious status. From a humble beginning the BNM group of Educational Institutions is now a leader in the field of education, making the teaching-learning process an enjoyable journey for every student and every teacher on the BNM campuses. Moreover, led and guided by renowned philanthropists, namely – Shri. N. Raghunath Rao Maanay, the founder and the managing trustee and Prof. Sunanda P. Jadhav, the founder secretary, BNMIT offers the most up to date UG programs across all the major streams of engineering and in AI and Machine Learning, along with hosting MTech and MBA programs.

In addition, the several centers of excellence (COEs) made available for all its students, help research enthusiasts excel as complete engineers, and relish and fulfill the urges of inner creators and innovators.
A lively atmosphere of hope and passion
A NAAC-accredited institute with an “A” grade, BNM Institute of Technology has been featured in the ARIAA & the NIRF rankings. Achieving these laurels has been only possible because of the sheer hard work put in by the onboard faculty members, who have been promoting an all-in-all technology-driven learning system pertaining to the current times. Adapting to perhaps what can be called a true blend of collaborative and flipped classroom learning, BNMIT employs strong Learning Management Systems in the curriculum. Also, regular industry visits and experts taking part in the teaching process at BNMIT, enables curation of best practices where students are pushed towards gaining news perspectives and skills of the industry, thus, enhancing overall personalities.
“BNMIT is one among 178 colleges//Universities across India to submit the proposal for New Gen IEDC and the only Institute in Karnataka to receive this grant in the year 2017-18 from Department of Science and Technology”, shares Dr. S. Y. Kulkarni, the Additional Director of BNMIT. Talking about how BNMIT has helped the Indian Engineering Landscape gain remarkable growth over the years, Dr. Kulkarni, the spokesperson of the institute, took us on a virtual tour of the institute, explaining in depth all the salient features of the institute. When asked about the curriculum followed, he stated – “All the programs offered by BNMIT follow the Curriculum of the affiliating University which is designed on Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) model with Outcome Based Approach”.
Through the conversation with Dr. Kulkarni, we also learnt that BNM Institute of Technology endorses a strong mentor-mentee scheme on the campus, where every 20 students have a designated mentor, who fills in the responsibilities of conducting regular meetings with parents/guardians, keeping a track of their individual progress. Subsequently, a mentor report too is generated, based on their performance as expert gurus. Regular student counselors visit the campus and attend to students via virtual/physical methods, catering to their needs, addressing issues and queries during these times of high uncertainty revolving around the lives of future engineers.
At BNMIT, research, consultancy and innovation are regarded as the pillars of their success. Most of the faculty members of the Institution are involved in research by attracting funded projects from various research level organizations like DST, VGST, VTU, DBT, DRDO, AICTE and industries. The outcome of the research is passed on to students through live projects from industries. Also, BNMIT has entered into collaboration with many prominent industries to bridge the gap between industry and Institution. Regular visits to industries and mandatory internships with industries have helped their students become skilled with relevant industry requirements. Structured training programs on soft-skills and preparatory training for competitive exams are offered here to make students more employable. Near to 100% placement of eligible students speaks to the effectiveness of these programs. Summing up the whole writeup and the conversation with us, Dr. Kulkarni shared – “I strongly believe BNMIT is marching ahead in the right direction, providing a holistic education to the future generation and playing a positive role in nation building, in turn, generating “GLOBAL PROFESSIONALS who are ready to take their spots, as capable engineers cum leaders of our great nation”.
