The Delhi Directorate of Education (Schools), under the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, initially announced an extension of the ongoing winter vacations in Delhi schools on Saturday. However, later the same day, the Directorate issued a subsequent order retracting the notice about the extended winter vacation.
The extended winter break for Delhi schools, applicable to students up to class 5, was set until January 12th. The original vacation extension notice, labeled No.DE.23(3)/Sch.Br./2024/18 and dated January 06, 2024, was posted on the official website of the Delhi Directorate of Education (DDE). The notice had the subject line ‘Extension of Winter vacation for academic session 2023-2024’.
All Heads of Schools in Delhi were instructed to communicate this information to stakeholders, including Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff, Students, and Parents, using various means such as SMC Members, Mass SMS facility, Phone Calls, or other suitable communication channels. The directive was issued with the approval of the Competent Authority.
The decision to extend the vacation was prompted by a yellow alert from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) due to expected dense fog, light rainfall, and a drop in temperature in the upcoming days. However, the extension notice was rescinded a few hours later. The withdrawal notice, labeled No.DE.23(3)/Sch.Br./2024/19, clarified that the earlier order from January 06, 2024, regarding the extension of the Winter vacation, was withdrawn immediately. Additionally, the withdrawal notice mentioned the possibility of further orders on this matter being issued in the future.
