There exists a disparity of education opportunities between genders where the stereotype restricts the role of women to household activities. It is only in the recent past that women have broken the traditional barriers and realized self-worth through the value of education.
Women are now regarded to be the backbone of the country, making an impact in every sector. Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian Law College is a premium Institution, one of its kind in the city of Bengaluru, that has taken a pledge to create a better tomorrow for women. Established in 2002, it is the only institution in the city imparting education exclusively for women being governed with the mission of bringing a positive impact on society. The College has left no stone unturned in making itself one of the most reputed Institutions in the country. Though a work-in-progress, the College continuously strives to constructively influence and contribute in the field of education, as it has done in its short span of existence. The College has a reputation of being a hotspot for legal education, attracting students from all parts of the country.
Emancipation of women through legal education
The mission statement of Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian Law College, “Empowering Women – Empowering India”, aims at making a difference in the legal arena and the society at large, addressing the social issues, uplifting the standards of women, imparting knowledge and values to students, building them to be strong citizens. Smt. Shiny Harsha, Principal, Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian Law College, visions that one day her students will be instruments of change in the legal fraternity, holding on to justice, values of integrity, commitment and virtues in all circumstances. She is of the belief that her students will grow into empowered individuals, painting a better world for the women of tomorrow and most importantly, strive to be right in the eyes of God.
The College offers two courses, 5 year B.B.A., LL.B, integrated program and 3 year LL.B course, where the primary focus vests on the practical approach of learning. The special set of syllabus intends to serve as a Launchpad for the students, much ahead of their competitors.
The Faculty at Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian Law College are experienced and highly qualified with NET, ensuring that the future leaders are taught by the best teaching methods, enhancing the quality of education.
The College has been refurbished with ‘smart classrooms’ to cater to the needs of the ‘technological age’. Learning has always been student-centric and has been reinstated by the Teaching Methodology adopted, blending traditional and modern techniques. Practical applications of principles have been practiced and research tools have been emphasized on, such as scientific methods, case study methods, empirical research methods etc.

Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian Law College ensures that East meets West by collaborating with various national and international organisations to give students maximum exposure. At present, the college is tied up to the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) and the International Institute of Waste Management. With NLSIU, certified courses are offered to students and other courses on subjects like personality development, career guidance, moot court training are offered by different institutions. Students take part in and host national moot court competitions, international conferences, workshops, seminars etc., which will allow them to get placed in leading firms in the industry.

Meet the Principal
Smt. Shiny Harsha has been the Principal of Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian Law College for the past 3 years. She completed her B.A., LL.B (Hons.) from University College of Law, Dharwad (now Sir SiddappaKambali Law College, Dharwad) and Master’s Degree in International/Business and Trade Law from ManasaGangotri, Mysore University, Mysore. Currently, she is pursuing her Ph.D from Karnataka University, Dharwad.
