Dr. (Capt.) G. S. Dhillon

As we embrace the increasing demands in the education sector, they inevitably bring numerous challenges for schools. This is where school leaders play a crucial role in identifying problems and developing solutions. By actively working on innovative interventions while fostering collaboration, these new-age leaders are transforming the educational landscape. Dr. (Capt.) G. S. Dhillon, Chairman & Director of Dalhousie Public School, stands out as one such visionary leader, carrying forward his years of experience, while steering the school towards its mission of nurturing well-rounded, capable, and ethical individuals.

A Legacy of Service and the Foundations of Leadership

Dr. (Capt.) G. S. Dhillon was born and raised in Punjab in a family deeply rooted in values of service and sacrifice for the nation. His grandfather, Dr. Diwan Singh Kalepani, was a revered freedom fighter who gave his life for India’s independence, and his father-in-law, Mr. Madan Singh, led the Naval Mutiny of 1942. Growing up in such an environment instilled in him a strong sense of duty and a desire to contribute meaningfully to society.

Dr. Dhillon embarked on his educational journey at Sainik School Satara in Maharashtra, where he was exposed to a variety of cultural and value systems. This early exposure to diversity broadened his perspective and helped him understand the importance of adaptability and empathy—qualities that have been instrumental in his career as an educator. He went on to pursue his graduation at State College of Sports, Jullundur, on a full scholarship as an athlete of merit.

From the Battlefield to the Classroom

Dr. (Capt.) G. S. Dhillon’s professional journey began with a deep sense of duty and commitment to serving the nation, leading him to join the Indian Army. Commissioned into the second battalion of ‘The Parachute Regiment’ SPECIAL FORCES in May 1974, a unit renowned for its bravery and distinguished service, he served on challenging fronts, including the Chinese border and the Western front.

While his military career provided invaluable experiences, Dr. Dhillon was driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge. Despite the demands of military life, he pursued higher education, completing a master’s in English, followed by an M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy.

After a fulfilling military career, Dr. Dhillon took premature retirement in 1986, aiming to channel his experiences and knowledge into the field of education. He embraced the opportunity to lead Dalhousie Public School, drawn by the chance to make a lasting impact on young minds.
