Established under the umbrella of Deccan Education Society, Institute of management development and research (IMDR) came into operation in 1974 by taking over the MBA programme of the MBA Center of the University of Pune and the DBM programme, run in the BMCC (a sister institution). Known as a pioneer of management education in the country, IMDR has churned out several batches of graduates over the years that are currently representing their alma-mater through their skills and expertise achieved at IMDR. Affiliated to the University of Pune, IMDR became an autonomous institution by voluntarily delinking from the University of Pune in 1977. However, IMDR stands out significantly among the other B-Schools through administering its PGDM program based on the Instructional System Design Methodology, which aims at integrating different disciplines to make Management an enriching field of thoughtful practice.
The students are welcomed annually to pursue a two-year full-time PGDM programme with a specialization in areas, viz. Marketing, Finance, Systems, Operations, International Trade, and Human Resources. Divided into 4 semesters, each of approximately 16 weeks, the programme focuses on practical experiences of the students as well, given which, the first two semesters are followed by an 8 weeks internship in a business organization. Imparted by a team of seasoned faculty members, the programme aims to develop the students into thoughtful and sensitive professionals. Students’ active participation is moreover given prominent importance by the faculty members, given which, modern teaching methodologies like case study, self-study, assignments, and field studies and so on are prioritized.
On the other hand, the ability to earn the PGDM degree with dual specialization also attracts more and more students every year to enroll at IMDR. The students from the very first day of their course are groomed and prepared for placement drives so that they can gain the confidence of earning their own place in the dynamic business space. In this regards, research also plays a great role in the institute in strengthening the knowledge base of the students. The eminent recruiters of IMDR include ICICI Bank, TCS, Axis Bank, Berger Paints, and the list hardly gets an end. Along with the students who aspire to take up jobs, the institute also takes care of those with entrepreneurial dreams through its E-Cell where entrepreneurship spirit is been promoted among the students by organizing guest lecturers of new entrepreneurs, business plan competitions, workshop cum industrial visits and many more.
