With the whole world gripped in the panic of the current pandemic, it is important for us to keep in mind, that this too shall pass, and, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel. However, it’ll be inconsiderate of us to not talk about the effects that this pandemic has had on various sectors, including higher learning, and its severe impacts on engineering education. Engineering institutes, colleges, and universities being spaces for in-person technical learning have asked students to stay at home while educating continues via online methods. Furthermore, with both students and parents doubting the credibility of educating online, institutes like JSPM’s Rajarshi Shahu College of Engineering via their through and through blended learning, have reinstated the faith of the general public in online-based technical education.
A vital part of the JSPM group, JSPMRSCOE was started in the year 2001 by young edupreneurs. Having a strong goal of imparting the best technical education to all, the campus was built keeping in mind all the state-of-the-art facilities needed by an engineer of today to excel, keeping in mind the current needs and demands of the industry/market. One among the top hallmark institutes of Pune, the institute is right on its path towards becoming an icon in the field of engineering education in the state of Maharashtra. Nurtured and managed by Jayawant Shikshan Prasarak Manadal Trust, JSPMRSCOE is an AICTE approved autonomous institute, affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University.
Coming as a ray of hope even during these gloomy times of the pandemic, the institute offers quality education in the form of varied courses offered on campus. From conventional programs in Mechanical and Civil to post-graduate courses in VLSI and Embedded systems, all undergraduate programs have been accredited 3 times by the NBA Delhi. Also accredited by NAAC with “A” Grade (CGPA 3.26), RSCOE has full power to design suitable course curriculums and pedagogy, staying well in sync with the industry, in turn, maximizing employability ratios among young engineering graduates.
Achieving excellence together
“Home to a completely flexible environment of teaching and learning, RSCOE preaches education 4.0”, quoted – Dr. R K Jain, the current principal of the engineering college, talking to us in-depth about the whole working ethos present on the campus. During a brief conversation, we had with Dr. Jain and Mr. Santosh Rao, the Dean of Student Progression & Industry Relations, we posed as budding engineering aspirants and tried our best to get answers to the most asked questions of today’s time. Both being experts at what they do, quite calm and easy in their responses gave us a virtual tour of RSCOE and showed us how even during these tough times of crisis, an engineering college can be run effortlessly. Continuing on his previous point about the educational environment, and talking about how RSCOE stands out when compared to other colleges and institutes in Maharashtra and the rest of the country, Dr. Jain stated – “All thanks to the impressive infrastructural setup at our college, even the laboratories have been shifted virtually, enabling smooth practical learning, irrespective of the medium used”.
A haven for technological brilliance, the college houses its own Moodle platform, which students utilize extensively, gaining each day and adapting to the new norm, preparing for tomorrow. Also, taking part in the online drive, RSCOE is also an exclusive member of online providers, such as Coursera and many more. Pushing students to outperform even beyond textbooks and libraries, these online platforms guide students towards becoming technologically advanced. As literal proof of the amount of hard work put in by the students and the management, Coursera – an online e-learning giant has rated RSCOE 4.75 out of the 5.0-star rating, for its ingenuity and learning prowess.
Talking about the onboard faculty members at the engineering college, Mr. Rao stated – “The faculty parade at RSCOE plays 2 major roles – one as academic guides, and 2nd as part-time parents”. Understanding the necessity of counseling and support needed by the students in this current time of uncertainty, the multi-talented teachers cum edupreneurs, motivate students on all grounds, be it personal or professional. Allocating each teacher towards counseling 20 students, they actively involve them via extra-curricular activities, thereby becoming someone who the students can look up to. Also, with the help of Rotax Clubs and many other associations, social work is inculcated in the students, teaching them the importance of being society-friendly individuals, the country needs. The college has been featured in the Academic Insights Magazine as the Engineering College of the Year 2020.
For the industry, by the industry
One among the 7 engineering institutions run by the trust, strong industry-academia relationships brew regularly on the campus of JSPM’s Rajarshi Shahu College of Engineering. Moreover, with the industry-academia playing a very important role in curating the best industry-oriented curriculum, top companies such as TCS, Bentley Systems and respected academic institutions such as IIT-Ropar, take part in the curation process. Carefully placing internships inside the curriculum, the engineering graduates at RSCOE are trained towards becoming employable, in every lesson or activity organized for them on campus. Top industry-experts also regularly visit RSCOE for tech-talks and guest lectures.
All in all, being an exceptional hotspot for relentless technical-learning, RSCOE endorses an environment of inclusivity, which can be felt across all the corners of the campus. Emphasizing heavily on self-learning, laboratories have been built on the campus, which pushes students to learn by trying. Lastly, being that innovative tech-institute that focuses on the all-rounded development of students, the institute and its management have dedicated a considerable amount of time in helping convert young shy students into engineers cum leaders of the 21st-century, and promise to continue in this path in the near future as well. The college has been featured in the Academic Insights Magazine as the Engineering College of the Year 2020.
