In a time of swift technological progress and a dynamic labor market, educational institutions play a critical role in molding the workforce of the future. It is the duty of these educational conglomerates to teach not just knowledge but also the skills and competences required for success in the contemporary world. Good education organizations are a light of excellence in this ever-changing context, raising the bar for academic rigor and real-world application.
In the middle of this rebirth of education, Majhighariani Institute of Technology & Science (MITS) stands out as an outstanding illustration of a school that has not only accepted but also successfully navigated the challenges posed by the twenty-first century. Through a steadfast commitment to providing top-tier technical education, MITS has distinguished itself as the Education Group of The Year – 2023. This accolade is a testament to MITS’s unwavering dedication to producing graduates who are not only academically proficient but also equipped with the skills necessary to excel in a competitive global landscape.
Education Group of The Year – 2023
Established in 1999 in Rayagada, Odisha, MITS Group of Institutions is a prominent educational consortium offering a diverse range of programs in Diploma, Graduate, and Post Graduate courses. Operating from its cutting-edge campuses in Bhubaneswar and Rayagada, MITS Group is strategically located amidst a thriving industrial landscape, complementing the specialized disciplines offered by the institute.
At the heart of this educational ecosystem is the Majhighariani Institute of Technology and Science (MITS), strategically positioned in an area boasting a multitude of national and multinational industries. These industries align closely with the fields of specialization emphasized by the institute.
Additionally, the MITS Institute of Professional Studies (MIPS) in Rayagada stands as one of Eastern India’s oldest Biotechnology Colleges. It offers an array of courses tailored to meet the demands of the market, spanning from Biotechnology to Agriculture, Food Technology to Computer Science, and Business Administration to Bachelor of Law. Notably, MIPS is situated in close proximity to MITS Mega Food Park Ltd, a unique 100-acre Agro Food Industrial Park in Eastern India.
In Bhubaneswar, the MITS School of Biotechnology (MSB) was pioneering in its establishment as the first self-financing institution dedicated to Biotechnology programs. It offers postgraduate degrees encompassing MSc programs in Biotechnology, Applied Microbiology, and Computer Science.
Pioneering Education with Industry-Driven Excellence
Leading the way in academic innovation in Odisha, MITS has forged a new route in biotechnology education. It is renowned for being one of the first colleges in the state to provide a biotechnology B.Tech. In addition, MIPS Rayagada, which is connected to Berhampur University, is exceptional since it was the first establishment in Odisha to offer comprehensive programs in biotechnology, food technology, and agriculture.
Another milestone has been reached by the MITS School of Biotechnology (MSB) in Bhubaneswar, which is pleased to be the area’s best self-financing institution offering specialized biotechnology degrees. The institute’s commitment to bridging the gap between industry requirements and academics is demonstrated by the vast range of value-added courses it offers as a supplement to the university curriculum.
Through strategic partnerships with industry leaders like Infosys Springboard, IEEE, and CDAC, MITS offers an extensive selection of over 21,000 industry-oriented online courses. This initiative is underlined by a mandate for students to complete a minimum of two courses per semester, ensuring they are equipped with the latest skills and knowledge demanded by the industry.
The institute’s focus on skill development is reflected in mandatory skill-based programs for pre-final and final year students. This proactive approach not only enhances employability but also fosters self-reliance among students.
Furthermore, MITS goes beyond theoretical learning, providing practical exposure through its adjacency to MITS Mega Food Park (A Group Company). This proximity allows students to gain invaluable insights into industry-specific challenges.
MITS’ Transformative Impact on Underprivileged Graduates
When we asked Prof. C. V. Gopinath, the Director of MITS to give us instances or success stories that exemplify MITS Group commitment to producing graduates who are well-prepared to excel in their respective fields and contribute meaningfully to society. In response the Director spoke about how MITS has a rich history of empowering students hailing from underprivileged backgrounds, particularly those from tribal communities and economically disadvantaged families. These students, upon completing their education and securing placements in esteemed companies, not only uplift their own lives and families but also serve as beacons of inspiration for their villages and communities. Two notable instances of such remarkable transformations include Mr. Chandrakant Mallick, a B.Tech (Civil Engineering) graduate from Tumidibandha village in Kandhamal District, Odisha. Despite hailing from a financially constrained background, he availed government scholarships to complete his education. Post-graduation, he identified a pressing need for a bridge across Tumidibandha river’s tributary, and with the help of his engineering knowledge and a few friends, successfully led the construction of a wooden bridge to benefit his community. Similarly, Mr. Sushant Mahanand, also a B.Tech (Civil Engineering) alumnus from Madhupur Village in Kalahandi District, Odisha, overcame financial hardships with the support of government scholarships. Following his studies, he achieved a significant milestone by securing a position in the Indian Engineering Services (IES) and is currently serving as the Field Director (Civil) in Similipal, Mayurbhanj District. Their journeys exemplify MITS’ dedication to fostering positive societal change through education and empowerment.
