On Tuesday, the West Bengal Board of Primary Education announced that the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) scheduled for December 24 is anticipated to have a turnout of over 300,000 candidates. Goutam Paul, the board president, assured that comprehensive arrangements have been put in place for the smooth conduct of the test at 743 centers throughout the state, including five in Kolkata. Speaking to reporters, he mentioned, “All necessary preparations have been completed to administer the TET in 743 centers, with an estimated 3.1 lakh candidates expected to participate in the examination.”

The examinations are organized for the recruitment of teachers in state-run and aided primary schools.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Calcutta High Court dismissed a plea by BJP MP Dilip Ghosh and another individual to reschedule the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) as it coincides with the December 24 Bhagavad Gita chant program, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend.

Arguing that the ‘Ek Lakh Gita Path’ program at the Brigade Parade Grounds in the city center will attract a large audience due to the prime minister’s presence, legal representatives for Ghosh and an examinee requested a change in the examination date. The court, however, declined the request, stating that the state government and Kolkata Police would ensure that candidates are not obstructed from reaching the five examination centers.
