From Modest Beginnings to a Movement
Prof. (Dr.) Samit Ray’s journey is deeply intertwined with a legacy of courage and sacrifice, drawing strength from a lineage of freedom fighters who stood at the forefront of India’s struggle for independence. Born into a modest middle-class household, his early years were shaped by financial adversity, yet also by an unwavering commitment to education and self-growth.
After earning an honors degree in Physics, Dr. Ray ventured into the field of computer science, eventually securing a key role at a respected IT firm. However, it was a humble request from young neighbors seeking his help with Mathematics for competitive exams that sparked a lifelong mission.
What began as informal weekend tutorials in Prof. (Dr.) Samit Ray’s study room soon evolved into a transformative educational movement, starting from a modest classroom in North Kolkata and eventually shaping the futures of thousands. Today, that vision has grown into the RICE Group, an integrated academic ecosystem with Adamas University at its core, offering holistic learning from school to higher education. Prof. Ray’s pursuit of excellence is evident in the institutions he has established: Adamas International School (2004), known for academic distinction and character-building; Adamas World School (2011), embracing global education frameworks; and Adamas University (2014), a forward-looking center for interdisciplinary research, innovation, and critical inquiry. To further modernize education, he launched Adamas Technology Consulting Pvt. Ltd. in 2021, leading digital transformation through platforms like RICE Smart, redefining how knowledge is delivered in a connected world.
Reflecting on his role in redefining private higher education and beyond, Dr. Ray emphasizes that true educational leadership lies in anticipating change and preparing students for the future. He believes the cornerstone of progress is the integration of interdisciplinary learning, encouraging students to explore beyond traditional boundaries, be it an engineering student opting for law, or a medical student exploring technology.

He explained that even learners outside the domain of technology must possess a working knowledge of AI to remain relevant in the evolving professional landscape.
Prof. Ray shared that his vision for the university has been shaped by firsthand exposure to leading universities worldwide, where he has studied best practices and adapted them to the Indian context to enhance institutional standards. Currently, Adamas is strategically positioning itself at the forefront of emerging domains such as artificial intelligence, quantum physics, and VLSI design, areas he believes will define India’s shift from a knowledge-based economy to one that leads in advanced product innovation.
