Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann bans private schools from hiking fees for 2022-23 session

Bhagwant Mann, the new Chief Minister announced on Wednesday, March 30, that all private schools in Punjab are prohibited from hiking their fees for the session of 2022-23. The Punjab CM has also prohibited Punjab private schools from compelling parents and children to buy their school books and uniform from a particular shop.

CM Mann further added that all these changes will come into force immediately. The Minister announced these decisions regarding the ban on Private schools for fee hiking in a video statement. The aim of these decisions – prohibiting fee hiking and buying of books and uniform – is to make education more affordable for all.

“The managements of private schools cannot increase their fees by even a rupee. We will formulate a comprehensive school fee policy in the coming days after discussion with all stakeholders, including parents of schoolchildren, school management and principals of private schools,” stated the newly appointed Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

CM Mann added that parents wish to provide quality education to their children but due to the unnecessary fee hikes, education has become costly and unaffordable, causing an increase in drop outs. “Resultantly, parents are forced to either get their wards dropped from schools or provide such education which does not help them to earn livelihood in future,” he stated.
