Schools Closed Across States Today Amid Festivals, Protests & Mourning

Several Indian states have declared school holidays on Wednesday, July 23, due to a mix of cultural celebrations, protests, and regional observances. In North India, the ongoing Kanwar Yatra has led to school closures in certain areas to manage traffic and public gatherings. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu’s Ariyalur district is observing a holiday for Aadi Thiruvathirai, a major festival honoring Lord Shiva, with additional holidays on July 24 and 28, turning the week into a festive break for students.
In Telangana, a statewide bandh led by student unions protesting fee hikes and scholarship delays has prompted many schools and junior colleges to close voluntarily, despite no official directive from the government. Similarly, parts of Kerala and Uttar Pradesh are also observing closures for various local reasons, reflecting a patchwork of disruptions across the country’s academic calendar today.
