Following forecasts of heavy rain by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Hyderabad district collector has declared a holiday for all schools and educational institutions in the region this Monday.
As the city braces for an orange alert, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is working tirelessly to clear the waterlogged, low-lying areas.
IMD ISSUES ORANGE ALERT
The city has been suffering from heavy downpours since early morning, resulting in the IMD issuing an orange alert. The department explains that an orange alert indicates the probability of very heavy rains ranging between 11cm to 20cm within a 24-hour period.
“We advise residents to stay safe and indoors due to the heavy rainfall forecast in Hyderabad,” the Hyderabad collector posted a message on social media.
In response to the high-precipitation forecast, the GHMC Commissioner requested people to stay home unless necessary. More than 3,000 personnel are presently in the field, assisting in clearing the waterlogged areas across the city.
