Schools, colleges in Himachal Pradesh closed till April 4 amid Covid-19 surge


The government of Himachal Pradesh has ordered all educational institutes in the state, including all schools and colleges, till April 4, 2021. The government has decided to shut down the schools and colleges due to the surge in Covid-19 cases in the state.

Though all the schools and colleges have been shut down in Himachal Pradesh, the students of higher classes, who are set to appear for the final exams in upcoming months, will be allowed to go to school for offline lessons.

All regular schools have been closed in the state till April 4 but the board schools in Himachal Pradesh are to remain functional during this time. Some schools in the state were closed earlier due to several reports of Covid-19 on the premises.

School hostels not to be closed
The chief minister of Himachal Pradesh further announced that the schools with hostel facilities can remain functional. It was also announced that colleges and universities with medical and nursing courses can remain open during this time.

He further added, “Medical colleges and nursing institutes will continue to function as usual and School teachers and other staff can attend the school, college physically.” He also said that the government is keeping a close watch on the rise in Covid-19 cases.

Apart from Himachal Pradesh, many states have decided to close the schools and colleges in view of the rise in Covid-19 cases across the country. Haryana, Maharashtra, Telangana, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab are some of the states that have shut down their educational institutes.
