Schools finally reopen in Chennai after a week of cyclone

Chennai Schools were closed almost for a week due to impact of Cyclone Michaung. All the government as well as private schools have reopened today, December 11. Tamil Nadu government earlier issued official order announcing closure of educational institutions in view of the flood like situation in the district.

As a repercussion of Cyclone Michuang, Tamil Nadu’s Chennai was facing heavy rainfall. More than 700 people were shifted to safer locations by the flood relief teams of the Indian Navy. “With more than 700 people shifted to safer locations, the Flood Relief Teams have continued to render assistance to the stranded people in submerged colonies of Pallikaranai, Thoraipakkam, Perumbakkam and Velachery in Chennai”, the Navy said on Thursday.

The Chennai Zonal Meteorological Center had warned that heavy rains are likely to occur in the districts of Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu due to the presence of a low atmospheric circulation over the Southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Maldives.
