Founded in the year 1993 in Austin Town, Bengaluru, T. John College has slowly become synonymous to synchronized teaching-learning processes, which are always in sync with the changing education paradigm, integrating value-added courses to its curriculum in addition to the ones prescribed by the Bangalore University. Also, by displaying an unwavering commitment towards excellence and quality education, T. Not only are the students at T. John motivated towards enhancing their skills and techniques on all the fronts with special emphasis on operation and management, strong industrial competitiveness is integrated accordingly across all the courses offered at the college. Having started with just a 3-year BHM (Hotel Management) degree course, now after two and a half decades, the college premises have been expanded to include new departments and blocks spread over an area of 20 acres of land, with courses ranging from 4-year Bachelor in Hotel Management Degree, 3-year B.Sc in Hotel Management to diploma and certificate courses in Food Preservation and Food and Beverage Service, Institutional Housekeeping and many more. So far, T. John College has produced 31 University Rank Holders who are fulfilling humanitarian needs in every possible way, where some of them are holding managerial positions and some have become business leaders and entrepreneurs. 

A Perfect Blend of Theoretical and Practical Learning

At T. John College, learning activities are characterized by active engagement, inquiry, problem-solving and collaboration with others, where the onboard teachers act as guides, facilitators and also co-explorers. “Our teachers encourage learners to question, challenge and formulate their ideas, opinions and conclusions”, shares Sr. Rose Mary, the Principal of T. While the students of T. John College are exposed to every related field of hotel management in the early and mid-semester duration; they become eligible to take specialization when they enter the 8th semester. The specialization contains major and minor courses, and if a student opts for taking food and beverage production as the major specialization, it can include Food and Beverage Service as a minor specialization and vice versa. The same remains with Front Office and Housekeeping too. Making the course period imbibed with enthralling activity hours, T. John College organizes inter-college events and festivals like international food fest every year. 

Emphasizing on Making Students Industry Ready, industrial visits have become a norm at T. John College aims towards helping students get accustomed to the working norms of accommodation management, food and beverage management, marketing, HR, Finance, operation, customer service and logistics segments in the hotel management division. Another segment in which students are exclusively trained is Outdoor Catering (ODC). They get the opportunity to experience real-time catering duties on event days and thereby learn professional skills under the respective hotel managers/supervisors. 

Furthermore, when the topic of how the whole pandemic situation was handled at T. John arose, Sr. Mary Rose stated – “We had entirely gone digital and conducted multiple Faculty Development Webinars to bolster the technical development and enrichment of the faculty members, ensuring that the faculty is capable enough to conduct uninterrupted online lectures for our students”. We also learnt through the conversation with the principal that at T. John almost 80% of the syllabus for the post graduate courses had been covered online using softwares like Zoom, Skype, Cisco, Webex, where the lectures have not only included theoretical aspects but also incorporated other methods like working on assignments, conducting online examinations, which has led to achieving a new milestone with the advanced teaching learning mode that the college has adopted for the betterment of the students.

Sr. Rose Mary – Principal

A personality with many quality traits and attributes credited to her name, Sr. Rose Mary completed her Associate Degree in Liberal Arts from Camden County College, New Jersey, BA in Elementary Education and Humanities, New Jersey; and MS in Administration and Supervision (Education) from Fordham University in New York. She has been in the USA for 28 years and 3 years in Italy. Sr. Mary has 13 wonderful years of teaching experience in New Jersey, Florida, and New York, USA. She has served as a Principal for over 9 years in the USA, where she carries forward her talent and expertise with her dynamic experience of academics, to currently cater to and head the parade of teaching/learning at T. John College.
