VES College of Architecture in a Nutshell

As an integral component of the Vivekanand Education Society (VES), VESCOA contributes significantly to the educational ecosystem alongside 25 other institutions situated in the Chembur vicinity. The overarching mission of the society is to provide high-quality education to individuals from all socio-economic backgrounds, thereby contributing significantly to the advancement of our nation. This vision aligns closely with the aspirations of Shri Hashu Advaniji, a revered social reformer. Across all its establishments, VES fosters a dynamic community comprising local students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

At VESCOA, the vision has always been to cultivate a dynamic, knowledge-driven environment and establish a center of excellence in architecture, dedicated to fostering sustainable and humane habitats. This vision is supported by a mission aimed at instilling a culture of values-based education, nurturing a conducive atmosphere for research and knowledge sharing, facilitating learning for excellence with a professional approach, promoting innovative creativity in architecture, and advocating for the role of design in sustainable habitats.

Integral to their pedagogical approach at VESCOA is the Integrated Design Studio, which spans all semesters of the B.Arch course. This project-based model integrates various subjects throughout the curriculum, including Environmental Science, Construction, Structures, Services, Theory of Architecture, Humanities & Social Sciences, Representation & Communication, and Quantity & Estimation. “This holistic approach ensures that design projects effectively address relevant interdisciplinary aspects, enriching the educational experience for our students”, shared Dr. Prof. Anand Achari, the principal.

Holistic Approach to Education at VESCOA

At VESCOA, the institute focuses on cultivating a research-based approach for each student’s projects across various semesters. In the 7th, 8th, and 9th semesters, particular emphasis is placed on nurturing individualized research content for thesis work. Furthermore, efforts are underway to facilitate the publication of this research on relevant platforms, providing students with valuable exposure to the research aspect of professional practice.

The Vertical Electives program is designed to promote interdisciplinary cross-learning among students by allowing them to select elective programs of their choice, regardless of their semester. Currently offering twelve different elective programs to 200 students, the program aims to produce final products, publication papers, or projects that can be further developed by the research and design cell at VESCOA. Additionally, collaboration with the School of Design for Furniture & Product Design and the Department of Engineering for Solar Decathlon enriches the elective experience for B.Arch students.

LAB-based teachings are structured to familiarize students with various testing methods, evaluation techniques, and the creation of quantifiable values across relevant domains throughout their five-year B.Arch course.

VESCOA is committed to fostering partnerships with both international and national organizations and bodies, facilitating direct dialogue between academia and industry. Currently, the institute boasts two international collaborations with universities in Spain and Italy, enhancing opportunities for global exchange and cooperation. Additionally, VESCOA has established approximately 24 collaborations with various organizations and practices, enriching the semester curriculum with visits, seminars, and webinars that allow students to interact with industry professionals.
