G. J. Advani Law College in a Nutshell

The HSNC Board established Gopaldas Jhamatmal Advani Law College, widely known as G.J. Advani Law College, in 1977. Permanently affiliated with the University of Mumbai, it is recognized under Section 2(f) & 12(B) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, and by the Bar Council of India, New Delhi, for offering a 3-year LL.B. degree and a 2-year LL.M. course.

The college organizes regular guest lectures by eminent legal practitioners and encourages student participation in activities like Moot Courts and Client Counseling Competitions. Time tables are aligned with the norms laid down by BCI, the University of Mumbai, and UGC, which are adopted and executed throughout the year.

Home to one of the best legal faculty members of the country, all of them are qualified as per the UGC and BGI norms, with many of them with a Ph.D. credited to their names. It is ensured that all of the faculty involve themselves in rigorous research activities, while also contributing research papers in reputation journals, participation and paper presentations at conferences and seminars, along with attending faculty development programs.

Redefining Infrastructural Brilliance

Located in Bandra West area of Mumbai, the college is fully air-conditioned with a library with over fourteen thousand books, e-resources, journals, and periodicals. It features a moot court hall, smart classrooms, classrooms with projectors, and several other top-notch amenities. Additionally, the college maintains a well-equipped computer lab, software, and e-library resources to ensure technology-based learning for students.

Best of Both the Worlds

To ensure students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, the college regularly organizes visits to various public offices such as police stations, courts, cyber-crime cells, juvenile justice boards, and the legislative assembly. These visits equip students with the functioning of important institutions, fostering their overall development and growth. The college also encourages students to participate in competitions organized by other colleges and provides sponsorship for these activities.

Also to ensure a positive learning environment where every student’s mental well-being is ensured, regular mentor-mentee sessions are organized. The teacher-student comradery extends beyond the classrooms as well, where the teachers guide students towards becoming better citizens, while also motivating them to engage in social activities.

A Hub of Pioneering Research

The research articles contributed by academicians in seminars and conferences are published as seminar proceedings at Gopaldas Jhamatmal Advani Law College. Notably, the institute is the first law college in Mumbai to regularly organize national-level seminars. Most recently, on January 28, 2024, the IQAC CELL organized a One Day Online International Multidisciplinary Conference on “Dimensions of Indian Knowledge System,” focusing on recent trends in research methodology across various disciplines. Additionally, the college has released its First Multidisciplinary Journal featuring 75 research articles in the current academic year published with ISBN no. 978-93-83833-06-1. The college actively promotes and financially supports research activities conducted by its staff members and students.

Dr. Bindu Variath – Principal

Dr. Bindu Variath – Principal

Dr. Bindu Variath holds an LL.M., SLET, M.Phil., and Ph.D., and has 23 years of experience teaching LL.B., LL.M., M.Phil., and Pre-Ph.D. students. Prior to her current position, she served as Vice-Principal at K.C. Law College from October 18, 2010, to July 18, 2022.

Dr. Variath is a Ph.D. Guide (Law) at Mumbai University, where she supervises six Ph.D. students. She has been a member of the Board of Studies in Law at the University of Mumbai. Her academic contributions include presenting 10 papers at international conferences and 30 at national conferences, publishing 30 papers, and authoring four books. Additionally, she conducted a research project on the police system in India, published by Thomson Reuters. This research was presented to the Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, on February 17, 2023, by Shri R. Venkatramani, Attorney General for India, and Professor Dr. S. Sivakumar, Project Director at the Indian Law Institute.

Dr. Suresh Santani, Vice-Principal of G.J. Advani Law College, has over fourteen years of teaching experience. He has taught a wide range of subjects, including Law of Torts, Administrative Law, Constitutional Law, Law of Contract, Law of Evidence, Civil Procedure Code and Law of Limitation, Jurisprudence, and Taxation Law.

Dr. Santani holds a Ph.D. in Law from Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati. He has published more than 50 research papers in various publications, including international journals.
