Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has earmarked Rs 850 crore for enhancing infrastructure in government schools and pre-university colleges across Karnataka. In addition to this allocation, he has outlined a range of initiatives aimed at enhancing educational outcomes. The CM also unveiled plans to establish more Karnataka Public Schools, aimed at providing comprehensive education from pre-primary to pre-university levels. Notably, 2,000 government primary schools will undergo upgrades to become bilingual institutions. It is worth mentioning that as of May 2021, Karnataka boasted a total of 276 Karnataka Public Schools.
Furthermore, the University of Vishweshwaraiah College of Engineering will undergo a transformation akin to IITs, with an infusion of Rs 100 crore. During the announcement of the state budget for 2024-25 in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, Siddaramaiah emphasized, “Our government is deeply committed to enhancing infrastructure in government educational institutions. In the preceding fiscal year (2023-24), we allocated Rs 600 crore for this purpose. This year, we are allocating Rs 850 crore to further this agenda.”
He went on to reveal plans for the establishment of Karnataka Public Schools, with a vision of offering seamless education from pre-primary to pre-university levels, supported by CSR grants. Additionally, Siddaramaiah announced the launch of the Ganitha-Ganaka program in collaboration with the J-PAL Institute, targeting students in grades 3 to 5. This initiative aims to foster a love for mathematics and enhance learning outcomes among children.
