AICTE approval not needed to offer online technical programs

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a public notice declaring that central, state, and private universities are no longer obligated to seek prior approval from the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) when applying to the UGC to offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and PG diploma programs in open distance learning or online formats.

According to the official notification, it is stated that “Central, State, and Private Universities are hereby informed that they do not need prior approval/recommendation/NOC from AICTE alongside their application to UGC for the provision of Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Postgraduate diploma programs in disciplines such as Management, Computer Application, and Travel and Tourism in Open Distance Learning (ODL) and/or Online mode.”
