A recent directive issued on Monday by the Directorate of Education (DoE) requires Delhi schools to ensure a minimum of 220 working days in an academic year. The circular refers to Section 19 of the RTE Act-2009 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023, making it mandatory for all schools under the Directorate of Education to adhere to the stipulated 220 working days. This requirement takes into account the specified lists of gazetted, restricted, and local holidays for the calendar year (January to December).
According to the directive, prior to the commencement of the academic year and during the planning of holiday periods, heads of government schools must confirm the completion of the mandatory 220 working days.
Regarding holidays for unaided recognized schools, the directive emphasizes that deputy district education (DDE) officers should ensure strict adherence to the directive before approving restricted or local holidays for any school within their jurisdiction. Additionally, unaided recognized schools are required to obtain approval for holidays from their respective management.
In light of the improvement in the Air Quality Index (AQI) and the forecast by the IMD/IITM, which indicates no sharp degradation in Delhi’s AQI in the near future, an official circular on Saturday declared the resumption of offline classes for all government-aided and private schools in the national capital from November 20, following the revocation of GRAP IV.
