Prof. R. K. Sinha – Vice Chancellor
Prof. R. K. Sinha holds an M.Sc. in Physics from IIT Kharagpur, which he completed in 1984. In 1990, he earned his Ph.D. specializing in Fiber Optics and Optoelectronics from IIT Delhi. His academic journey extended further through Post-Doctoral Research at Osaka and Kobe University in Japan, as well as at I.I.Sc Bangalore between 1989 and 1991. Over the years, Prof. Sinha has enriched his career through various academic positions, including stints at BITS Pilani, REC/NIT Hamirpur H.P., and DCE/DTU-Delhi.
He made significant contributions in establishing the TIFAC-Center of Relevance and Excellence in Fiber Optics and Optical Communication under the Technology Vision 2020 Program. Additionally, he conceptualized and executed the B.Tech. Engineering Physics, M.Tech. (MOCE), and M.Tech. (NST) programs at DTU Delhi. Prof. Sinha’s remarkable research endeavors are evident through his impressive publication record, boasting over 380 research papers in esteemed Journals (174) and Conference Proceedings (206). Furthermore, he has authored 07 book chapters and 03 books, and holds credit for originating 06 patents. He has been actively involved in supervising 22 sponsored projects and guiding 20 Doctoral theses.
His contributions to the field of optics and photonics have been recognized with fellowships from prestigious organizations. Prof. Sinha is a Fellow of the International Society of Optics and Photonics (SPIE), the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), and the Optical Society of India (OSI). Prof. Sinha’s expertise has extended to leadership roles as well, serving as the Director of CSIR-CSIO Chandigarh, CEERI Pilani, and IMTECH Chandigarh. Moreover, he has been a mentor to over 39 technology development projects, facilitating their successful transfer to the industry.
