Karnataka’s Higher Education Department is working on a new initiative to reserve seats for economically disadvantaged yet meritorious students from the state in foreign universities setting up campuses locally. The proposal is part of the state’s partnership with Lancaster University, United Kingdom, which recently announced its plan to establish a branch in Bengaluru. The university is expected to begin operations in February 2026, with admissions slated for August–September of the same year.
During the inauguration of a new academic building at Nrupatunga University on Tuesday, Higher Education Minister M.C. Sudhakar stated that discussions had been held with foreign universities about reserving seats for Karnataka students. The institutions responded positively but requested scholarship support for the selected candidates, a condition the state government has agreed to fulfill.
