Quality dental education is essential in India, as the current curriculum is often criticized for being outdated, rigid, and insufficient in equipping graduates for modern dental practice. This has created a significant gap between new dentists’ skills and industry expectations. However, with the rise of new-age dental institutions like MGV’s Karmaveer Bhausaheb Hiray Dental College and Hospital, a more competent dental workforce is emerging—one that integrates advanced technologies, excels in practice management, and upholds strong ethical values and patient communication.

Setting a benchmark for dental education in India, Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir’s Karmaveer Bhausaheb Hiray Dental College and Hospital, Nashik (MGV’s KBHDCH), exemplifies a commitment to academic excellence, clinical proficiency, and community service. Its unwavering dedication to societal well-being has earned it the prestigious recognition as India’s Best Dental College of the Year 2024.

From the Scratch

Established in 1991, Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir’s Karmaveer Bhausaheb Hiray Dental College and Hospital, Nashik (MGV’s KBHDCH) has been a pioneer in redefining dental education and serving the community through quality healthcare. As Maharashtra’s first private unaided dental college, it is affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik, and recognized by the Dental Council of India (DCI).

The institute’s pursuit of excellence has been defined by numerous milestones. The visionary leadership, strategic direction, and unwavering support of Hon. General Secretary Dr. Prashantdada Hiray and Hon. Coordinator Dr. Apoorvabhau Hiray have played a pivotal role in achieving these accomplishments. In 2004, it received DCI recognition for 100 BDS seats, followed by the launch of MDS programs in seven specialties in 2007. By 2010, these programs secured full recognition, and today, the institute offers 31 postgraduate seats across various disciplines. In 2022, it became a PhD research center in seven specialties and expanded its community outreach by adopting 10 villages, including five tribal areas, providing free dental check-ups, treatments, and awareness programs. Strengthening its global presence, the institute signed an MoU with AIMST University, Malaysia, in 2023, co-organizing the II AIMST International Dental E-Conference. Most recently, in 2024, it partnered with Velmeni Inc., California, to advance research on oral potentially malignant disorders.

 A Hub of Innovative Technology

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure, MGV’s KBHDCH seamlessly integrates advanced equipment for both dental education and patient care.

To enhance learning, the institute employs ICT-enabled tools, including Smart LED interactive panels with Wi-Fi connectivity for interactive teaching. A cloud-based academic management system ensures uninterrupted blended learning, while simulation software such as Sidexis for dental implant planning and Nemoceph for orthodontic treatment planning provide hands-on training for students. Additionally, students have complete access to online e-resources to support their education.

In patient care, MGV’s KBHDCH prioritizes affordable, high-quality treatment through advanced diagnostic and treatment planning facilities. Since 2012, the institute has offered Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) services at discounted rates, ensuring precise radiological diagnostics. Microdentistry with an Endodontic Microscope is routinely practiced for high-quality, predictable endodontic treatments, while Soft Tissue LASER technology enables bloodless, pain-free surgeries with minimal post-operative complications. A fully-equipped aesthetic clinic and clinical simulation software further enhance treatment accuracy and guided management.
