Engineering schools are changing more than simply brains in the ever-changing educational landscape; they are changing learning itself. The days of strict procedures and conventional chalkboards are long gone. Modern engineering education is a vibrant blend of creativity, technology, and lightheartedness. In this world, kids are innovators, problem solvers, and tomorrow’s visionaries in addition to being learners.
Now, imagine a place where this transformation isn’t just a buzzword but a way of life. Enter Ramco Institute of Technology (RIT), where the spirit of reinvention pulsates through the very fabric of education. Established and nurtured under the illustrious Ramco Group, with a legacy dating back to 1938, RIT doesn’t just follow the trends; it sets them. Endowed with the ethos of quality, technological prowess, and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of conventional learning, RIT stands as a testament to the evolution of engineering education.
So, why does RIT deserve the accolade of Engineering College of the Year 2023? Because it embodies the spirit of engineering excellence and innovation. It’s a place where the principles of the past meet the possibilities of the future, and where every student is not just educated but empowered to redefine the very fabric of engineering. In a world of perpetual change, RIT stands tall, a pioneer in shaping the engineers of tomorrow.
Engineering Excellence and Innovation
With a focus on innovation, Ramco Institute of Technology is dedicated to developing a modern, innovative teaching and learning environment. The institute actively uses technology to create a dynamic and engaging educational experience, departing from traditional teaching methods in recognition of the digital nativeness of today’s millennial students.
In keeping with its central mission of innovation, Ramco Institute of Technology focuses on three essential areas. First off, instead of using traditional chalk-talk techniques, interactive projectors, expensive audio-video systems, and online resources are easily incorporated into smart classrooms. This is an example of how Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is being integrated into education.
Additionally, the provision of online resources, encompassing online courses, NPTEL video lectures, interactive videos, animations, and online games, reflects a commitment to continuous knowledge enhancement. Faculty members contribute to this initiative by engaging in online courses from globally recognized institutes, thereby enriching the overall teaching-learning process.
Secondly, the institute champions unique instructional delivery methods, including experiential learning, participative learning, and problem-solving methodologies. This approach not only brings together students from diverse backgrounds but also fosters enhanced engagement and creativity. Faculty members actively participate in reimagining their teaching methods to cultivate a joyful learning environment, encouraging students to unlearn, re-think, and redefine their learning abilities.
Lastly, Ramco Institute of Technology places a strong emphasis on maintaining effective, transparent assessment and evaluation methods through its Learning Management System (LMS). Utilizing tools such as Canvas, Google Classroom, Virtual Labs, Simulation Tools, and Software, the institute extends the learning experience beyond the traditional classroom environment. Canvas and Google Classroom, in particular, are extensively employed, allowing students to access learning resources at their convenience. The use of virtual labs, simulation tools, and software contributes to an in-depth understanding of various concepts, facilitating a transparent and effective assessment and evaluation process.
Beyond Boundaries
Within the innovation category, Ramco Institute of Technology (RIT) has achieved a commendable ranking of 151-300 in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023. Notably, Anna University, Chennai has designated a number of departments as Research Centers, including Chemistry, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. RIT’s dedication to promoting research endeavors is demonstrated by the submission of applications for research center status by the Department of Civil Engineering.
More than twenty faculty members at RIT have had their expertise recognized by Anna University as research supervisors, and over forty faculty members are pursuing doctorates. Five faculty members were successful in getting student research proposals approved by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology for the 2022–2023 academic year. Furthermore, the institution’s commitment to research endeavors is demonstrated by ongoing projects, such as one funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, and 10 projects approved by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) for startup initiatives over the previous two years.
Under the guidance of Shri. P.R. Venketrama Raja, Chairman, RIT and Ramco Group RIT has successfully concluded 29 research projects, collectively valued at Rs. 59,51,602. Simultaneously, 15 ongoing projects are currently underway, totaling Rs. 46,31,270. The faculty members have made substantial contributions to the academic community, publishing over 500 research articles. Dr. L Ganesan, the Principal emphasized, ‘Our institution’s research quality, assessed by the h-index, has notably increased to 29 in the year 2023.'”
In terms of industry collaboration, RIT has signed over 40 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with various industries and educational institutions, fostering partnerships that contribute to the practical application of research outcomes. The institution has also demonstrated a strong commitment to innovation, with a total of 68 patents, out of which six have already been granted.
