From the Scratch
Sapthagiri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (SIMS & RC), established in 2011 under the aegis of Sri Srinivasa Educational & Charitable Trust, has emerged as a premier medical institution in Bengaluru. Situated along Hesaraghatta Main Road, the institute is built to meet the highest academic and healthcare standards. Its journey began with the establishment of Sapthagiri Hospital in 2010 as a multi-specialty tertiary care center, which expanded into a super-specialty hospital in 2012, offering comprehensive preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative care. Over the years, the hospital has grown from 350 beds to an impressive 1,700-bed facility, housing a wide range of specialty and super-specialty departments.
A NABL and NABH accredited institute, SIMS & RC launched its MBBS program in 2011, laying the foundation for excellence in medical education. It expanded further with the introduction of postgraduate courses in pre and para-clinical subjects in 2016 and clinical specialties in 2019. Recognizing the need for advanced medical training, the institute introduced super-specialty DM & MCh programs in 2021. To complement medical education and patient care, Allied Health Sciences, Bachelor of Physiotherapy, and Nursing courses were introduced in 2015.
Recognizing the importance of personalized student support, SIMS & RC provides bi-monthly one-on-one counseling sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students facing academic or personal challenges. Additionally, a mentor-mentee system allows faculty members to closely guide and supervise students throughout their academic journey. The institute actively extends its services beyond its campus, organizing 25-30 medical camps every month across Karnataka, ensuring that even remote populations receive quality medical care. Patients identified through these camps are admitted and treated at SIMS & RC at no cost.
The institute plays a crucial role in implementing various government healthcare schemes such as Ayushman Bharat Arogya Karnataka (AB-ARK), Yeshasvini, ESI, and Dr. YSR Arogyasri, providing free treatment for congenital heart diseases and other critical conditions. According to Sri G.
