A scholar-administrator of rare distinction, Prof. S. Prabhakar was the Founding Principal of SDM College, Ujire, where he laid the institution’s academic bedrock in 1966. A brilliant academician who secured the first rank in his M.A. from the University of Mysore, he transitioned from a promising career in government service to lead the fledgling college for 27 transformative years.
Later serving as the Vice-President of the SDM Educational Society, he provided the strategic oversight necessary for the establishment and expansion of the Ayurveda institutes in Hassan and Udupi, as well as the SDM Institute of Technology (SDMIT), Ujire.
Beyond his administrative prowess, Prof. Prabhakar was a prolific man of letters and a guardian of Kannada culture. He authored three books, edited 18 works, and served as the
dedicated Editor of ‘Manjuvani’ magazine for four decades. He spearheaded numerous Kannada Sahitya Sammelanas and was a pillar of the annual Sarvadharma (Inter-faith) Conferences, elevating rural education through literary engagement and value-based expansion.
