By 1988–89, Shanthivana’s remarkable success revealed a paradox, there were too few qualified Naturopathy Doctors to meet the growing demand. Medical Colleges trained allopaths and Ayurveda Colleges produced Ayurvedic Doctors, but no institution existed to educate Naturopaths capable of working in hospitals, conducting research, or teaching. In 1989, Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade bridged this gap by founding SDM College of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences in Ujire, Asia’s first college exclusively dedicated to Naturopathy and Yoga Education, established four years before the government formally recognized the system.

More than 1800 doctors from this college have completed their education in 31 batches and are well placed in their profession in India and abroad.
