Established in 1981 by “The Society for Welfare of the Disabled” at Vamanjoor, Mangalore, SDM Mangala Jyothi Integrated School was founded to fulfill the educational aspirations of children with disabilities. The late Mrs. Mohini A. Naik played a pivotal role in its inception. Embracing the concept of integrated education, the school provides free educational resources within the ordinary education system. SDM Educational Society assumed ownership in 2000, following which the institution underwent comprehensive development, particularly in infrastructure and facilities.
The school caters to orthopedically challenged, hearing and visually impaired, autistic, intellectually challenged, and economically backward children in an inclusive ratio of 1:2.

On November 29, 2025, SDM Mangala Jyothi Integrated School, Vamanjoor, commemorated its illustrious “Rajata Mahotsava” (Silver Jubilee) Presided over by Reverend Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shree Kshethra Dharmasthala, the Silver Jubilee will highlight the vision and tireless dedication that have brought holistic education and vocational training within reach of hundreds of children each year. Gathering students, educators, alumni, families, and distinguished guests, the occasion will feature retrospectives, cultural showcases, and testimonies to the school’s transformative impact on lives and society.
