Established in 1978, SDM College of Business Management (SDMCBM) on Kodialbail Road, Mangaluru, emerged at a time when business education was reshaping coastal Karnataka’s entrepreneurial landscape. Founded on the philosophy that graduates should be self-reliant entrepreneurs and job-creators rather than job-seekers, a vision rooted in Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade’s belief that students “should write their own accounts”, SDMCBM was designed to serve the community as a whole. Today, roughly half of Mangaluru’s established business establishments include SDMCBM alumni, testament to its deep integration into the region’s commercial ecosystem.
NAAC accredited with an ‘A’ Grade (CGPA 3.15 as of 2023), the pedagogical strength of the college lies in integrating practical industry experience with classroom theory. Subject-specific co-curricular activities, from simulations to case studies, and to even real-life scenarios in finance, HR, marketing, and business law, are conducted with professionals and senior mentors. Regular guest lectures from corporates, alumni, and local entrepreneurs emphasize entrepreneurship and leadership. A robust Placement Cell manages final-year internships at reputed companies in IT, finance, manufacturing, and consulting sectors. A network of top recruiters including HP, IBM, Northern Trust, and Emphasis regularly visits campus. A dedicated Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP) cell nurtures student startups and mentors budding entrepreneurs from concept to execution. While current AI-specific modules are limited to add-on shortterm courses in the BCA department, planned curriculum expansions include specialized B.Com. options addressing evolving market needs.
