Rural Development & Self Employment Training Institute (RUDSETI) had its humble beginning in 1982, established by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational (SDME) Trust, Canara Bank, and then Syndicate Bank, under the visionary leadership of Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala. Conceived with a collective vision to mitigate unemployment, RUDSETI provided a concrete institutional framework to promote self-employment and entrepreneurship among rural youth.
Recognizing the success of the RUDSETI model, the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India, launched RSETI 1.0 on a pan-India basis during 2007–08, replicating the RUDSETI model across the country. As a result, 625 RSETIs are functioning nationwide. The Ministry also constituted a National Level Advisory Committee for RSETIs (NLACR), with Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade serving as the Co-Chairman of the Committee.

Course Modules
The Course Modules for Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDPs) under Agriculture EDP, Process EDP, Product EDP & General EDP designed by National Academy of RUDSETI (NAR) are adopted for training. These courses are approved by NCVET in alignment with the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF).The duration of training programmes ranges from one to six weeks. During the intensive training, technical skills along with soft skills are provided to the trainees in a capsule form.
National Academy of RUDSETI (NAR)
Futher, Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade is also the President for NAR which was started to Commemorate Silver Jubilee of RUDSETI during 2008, National Academy of RUDSETI was launched at Bengaluru on 18th December 2008 with the following objectives:
• Organizing the Trainers Training Programme for new RSETI Directors.
• To work as a National level Resource Organization (NRO) for RSETIs.
• To conduct research and development work in the field of Entrepreneurship Development.
• To design and conduct training programmes and undertake projects in the field of enterprise promotion, Rural Development and HRD
