Founded in 1963 by the Rashtreeya Sikshana Samithi Trust, RV College of Engineering began as a modest institution, offering just three engineering branches. Over six decades, it evolved into one of India’s most respected private, autonomous engineering institutions, and today offers 12 undergraduate and 16 postgraduate programmes, alongside doctoral studies. Consistently placed among the top private engineering colleges in India for placement outcomes, RVCE has built its reputation on strong industry linkages, sustained research output, and a curriculum that keeps pace with where technology is heading, which made the next step almost inevitable.
That next step arrived in 2021, with the launch of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, admitting an intake of 60 students at a time when AI was fast becoming the backbone of modern engineering. The department’s 2021 scheme wove in subjects like Natural Language Processing, Artificial Neural Networks, Big Data, Cloud Computing, and Stream Processing & Analytics, while specialization electives, including AI for Autonomous Vehicles, Ethical AI, and AI-Integrated Software Engineering, gave students room to go deep into emerging niches. Anchoring it all was an Experiential Learning component that pushed students to learn by building, not just studying, a philosophy that, paired with RVCE’s decades of academic credibility, is exactly why it earns its place among India’s Top AI colleges.
A Future-Focused Curriculum
Growing enthusiasm around AI, both within academia and across industries, prompted the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to expand its intake to 120 seats by 2023.

Alongside this growth, the syllabus underwent two major overhauls, first in 2022 and again in 2025, each aimed at keeping pace with a rapidly shifting technological landscape. The 2022 revision brought in cutting-edge domains such as Agentic Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Physical Systems, among other emerging areas of study. A year later, in 2023, the department was restructured as Computer Science and Engineering (AI & ML).
The 2025 scheme took this a step further, aiming to build a more robust technical base for learners by incorporating Operating Systems, Linux Internals, and Quantum Computing Essentials alongside specialised AI subjects. Mathematics offerings in the third and fourth semesters were also strengthened, introducing advanced linear algebra, statistics, and other foundational concepts essential to the field. Domain-specific electives covering AI applications in sectors like industry, healthcare, and agriculture were added to the mix, while newer subjects such as Generative AI, Agentic AI, Large Language Models, Ethical AI, AI for Software Engineering, and Data Storytelling were shaped directly around evolving industry needs.
This industry alignment is no accident. The institute maintains active partnerships with several corporate and government bodies, supported by multiple Centres of Competence and Centres of Excellence on campus. Organisations such as Boston Ltd, IBM, Axtroid, Boeing, ISRO, CAIR-DRDO, and the Indian Navy collaborate as academic allies, contributing to joint research initiatives, student projects, and internship opportunities. These ties are formalised through Memoranda of Understanding that establish dedicated Centres of Excellence, specialised laboratories, and jointly developed certifications or elective tracks, ensuring that what’s taught in the classroom stays closely tethered to what the industry actually demands.
State-of-the-Art Labs Powering Hands-On Learning
Supporting all this academic ambition is a set of well-appointed laboratories within the CSE(AIML) department. Students have access to modern desktop systems and dedicated workstations, alongside hands-on hardware like Jetson Nano kits, Raspberry Pi boards, and 3D printers.
A standout feature of the department is its Centre of Excellence, RVCE-BOSTON AI Research and Business Solutions, which offers students structured internship opportunities and specialised training sessions. The facility is backed by substantial infrastructure, including an Intelligent Processing Unit (IPU), High Performance Computing Cluster (HPCC) powered by LexisNexis, and Nvidia’s H-100 and B-200 GPUs, housed within a data centre equipped with numerous commercial software licenses for academic use, student projects, and internships. Notably, this capacity extends beyond RVCE’s own student body, with learners from other institutions also availing themselves of internship opportunities here.
From Campus to Career
All thanks to the legacy of RVCE and the impressive partnerships of the department, the students get the best of placement opportunities, and the stats of the graduating batch of 2026 was a vital proof of this excellence. Out of 70 students in total, 65 were eligible to participate in the placement process, and 56 secured on-campus offers.
Compensation figures were equally noteworthy, with the batch registering a peak package of ₹57.78 LPA and a median figure standing at ₹18.825 LPA. The recruiter list was a blend of global technology giants, specialised AI/ML firms, and leading financial institutions, featuring names like Google, Nvidia, Microsoft, LinkedIn, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Qualcomm, Deutsche Bank, Fivetran, RingCentral, Oracle, SAP, Meesho, Razorpay, and Société Générale, among several others.
Future Roadmap
Looking ahead, RVCE has charted an ambitious course for its AI program over the next two to three years. Plans are underway to introduce new specialisations in Generative AI, Ethical AI, and
cross-disciplinary applications spanning AgriTech, FinTech, EduTech, and BioTech, while deepening its network of international ties. The college is simultaneously scaling up its industry collaborations and global research efforts, positioning itself as a frontrunner in applied AI innovation.
On the academic front, the department intends to host a series of Faculty Development Programmes, seminars, guest lectures, and conferences in partnership with organisations abroad. Additional student exchange opportunities, fresh MoUs, and joint research ventures aimed at driving publications and patents are also on the horizon.
At the heart of all these efforts lies a singular goal of shaping graduates who are not just industry ready, but equipped to navigate an unpredictable, fast-changing world with confidence and conviction.
