A superior academic haven operating in an invigorating atmosphere, the Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College was started in 1985, as an offshoot of the Bishop Cotton Girls’ School and carries with it a rich tradition of more than 150 years of experience in imparting education. Through dedication and hard work put in by the management of the college, now the college is proud of its status as a Pre-University, and an Under-Graduate and Postgraduate college, located in the heart of the Bangalore city, affiliated to Bengaluru City University and NAAC Re- accredited.

Striving on the motto of the college – ‘Nec Dextrorsum, Nec Sinistrorsum’, which means neither to the right nor to the left, the focus is to educate individuals to think and act as ethical leaders which will help in the creation of a new social order based on human dignity, equality and opportunity with social, political and economic justice. Also, by valuing academic achievement, personal freedom and integrity, dignity and respect of the individual, the path trodden by the institution is illuminated by a spirit of commitment to excellence. 

True Cottonian Spirit

The college currently offers B.COM, BBA, BSc, BCA, BSc in Botany, Bio-technology, Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, Nutrition and Dietetics, Mathematics and Zoology, BA course in Journalism, optional English, Sociology, Political Science, History, Travel and Tourism, Economics, Psychology and Home Science subjects. The post-graduate courses in M.COM, MSC (Psychology), MA (English) and MSC (Nutrition and Dietetics) attracts students from all over the country. The National Education Policy (NEP) is followed according to the Bangalore City University norms. Whereas, the pre-university courses offered are Science (PCMB, PCMC, PCME, PCBH) Commerce (MEBA,HEBA,SEBA,SMBA,CEBA) and Arts (HEPP,HEPS). Furthermore, the IQAC team strives hard to provide quality education and encourages co-curricular and extracurricular activities in college.

Apart from the impressive curriculum which is carefully curated for curious young minds,  the college hosts a wide spectrum of co-curricular, extra-curricular activities, Sports & games and Student Support Services are provided to inculcate holistic education for the “Physical fitness, Emotional & Social well-being of the Students. An Internal Complaints Committee, Anti-Ragging Committee, sexual harassment Cell & Grievance Cell exist on the college campus, which aim to generate all round student welfare on Campus, along with extension activities and Outreach programs regularly organized by the college through NSS, NCC, Red Cross, Youth Red Cross, Rotaract club and so on. Awareness programs too are conducted in the General Assembly which is held every alternate week, encouraging and promoting Physical fitness of Students. “Additionally, we also host the Annual Inter—Collegiate Literary and Cultural Fest called ‘Disha’ which attracts students from across the city and provides a platform for students to exhibit their talents in both cultural and literary events”, shared – Dr. Revina Rebecca, the Principal of the college.

All the success achieved by the students at Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College is due to the excellence displayed by the onboard faculty members, who utilize holistic approach of education in every endeavor carried out on the college campus. “The teachers themselves are highly qualified in their respective field of specialization, and are hired as per the UGC norms and are expected to provide quality education only”, continued Dr. Revina Rebecca. Adding a point on the criteria of faculty recruitment at the Women’s Christian College, Dr. Rebecca stated – “The college recruits faculty members based not only on intellectual wisdom, but also the hiring team expects in a teacher, high moral standards to inculcate the same in students”. Through the conversation with the current principal/secretary it also became evident that the recruitment team looks towards hiring only those individuals who will inspire and nurture the overall development of a student. 

With a well-maintained garden which provides a green and a pleasant atmosphere at everyone’s ready disposal, the infrastructure is state-of-the-art, consisting of spacious classrooms, sufficient computers, and a conditioned ICT-setup well equipped with audio-visual equipment and labs. The industry-connection is impressive, facilitating learning beyond the classrooms, training students in industry ready skills. The college also provides pre-Placement training for all final year students on the required soft skills such as Resume building, Interview skills, Stress and Time Management and Corporate Etiquettes. Aptitude tests are conducted to gauge the ability of the students and coach them on areas that need refinement. Also, the industrial bond extends beyond just placements and internships, and usually results in guest lectures/ workshops, webinars and seminars, and a number of certificate courses, for every department. 

Lastly, in pursuit of being known as a go-to hub for complete educational journeys, the aspect of Entrepreneurship is equally emphasized as compared to Placements at Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College. The Entrepreneurship Cell of the college encourages and allows students to generate ideas which could be converted into viable ventures thus allowing students not to be merely job seekers, but to be job providers. The E-Cell was created in coordination with the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN), which is a nonprofit initiative of the Wadhwani Foundation. Also, the ultimate goal of the College has and will always be to help launch thousands of new women entrepreneurs, who in turn will create hundreds of thousands of much-needed valuable jobs for India, allowing new and future entrepreneurs, students and faculty to create, grow and sustain entrepreneurial communities both within and outside the campus. 

Dr. Revina Rebecca – Secretary/Principal

A Doctorate in Computer Science with over 25 years of teaching Experience, Dr. Revina has published research papers in National and International Journals of Repute. She has a great vision for women empowerment and wishes to see more women entrepreneurs and Leaders in the years to come. She strongly believes that Innovation is the only key to bring this change in education, while also working towards bringing in more innovation in Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College in the near future.
