CHRIST (Deemed to be University) in a Nutshell

Originated from the educational vision of St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, a nineteenth-century educationist and social reformer in South India, founded the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), the first Catholic indigenous congregation.

Established as ‘Christ College’ in 1969, the institution undertook pioneering initiatives in Indian higher education by introducing innovative and modern curricula, adopting global higher education practices.

In 2004, the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India granted autonomy to Christ College and recognized it as an Institution with Potential for Excellence in 2006. In 2008, under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India declared the institution Deemed to be University, now known as Christ University.

The campus of CHRIST (Deemed to be University) exemplifies harmonious multiculturalism, hosting students from all Indian states and union territories, as well as around 60 different countries. Pioneering AI-Driven Academics

Most of the programs offered by CHRIST (Deemed to be University) incorporate an integrated AI-related curriculum. These programs include an MA in English with Digital Humanities, a BCom in Financial Analytics, an MSc in Global Finance and Analytics, Law and Analytics, Data Science and Analytics, and a BBA in Business Analytics, among others. Additionally, doctoral scholars researching AI in conjunction with their disciplines are encouraged and supported.

The onboard faculty members who teach the AI related programs at the university are polymaths and multi talented individuals. Especially during the pandemic, as it became important to hold classes irrespective of where the students are located, the faculty members effectively restructured courses to allow ease of learning. Accordingly the university subscribed to online course providers like Coursera, EduX, etc, to offer subsidized or free courses on advanced programmes.

The faculty members also partake in regular faculty development and quality improvement programs, and the university is proud to state that some of the faculties are experts at CHRIST Infotech, an incubation and consultancy unit. “Additionally, a Bloomberg Lab has been set up while training faculty members and students and allowing them to deliver high impact research in Business, Commerce & Finance and Economic streams”, shared Dr. Parameswaran Subramanian, an Associate Professor and Head at the university.

A Hub of Cutting-Edge AI Research

At CHRIST (Deemed to be University), the Department of AI specializes in research on topics including blockchain solutions, business automation, cryptocurrency applications, and marketing analytics, which is being actively pursued by both faculty and students. In partnership with IEEE, India, the department hosted an International Conference on Trends in Quantum Computing in Business Applications, which included over 30 research papers on artificial intelligence written by teachers and students. In a joint research project with Liverpool Hope University, UK, the faculty members are in a symbiotic relationship, in turn exploring AI applications in the agricultural sector. They are also working on a research project on automating human resources through organizational culture, in collaboration with Anderson University, USA, which was selected for further investigation.

Furthermore, the AI block consists of an analytical lab with over 60 computers equipped with the latest analytical tools. Where the university supports the department with a Bloomberg lab, providing real-time stock market data. This lab facilitates research in finance and emerging financial technologies. It also offers a short-term certificate course in finance and its technologies.

Global Collaborations and Stellar Placement Records

CHRIST (Deemed to be University) has so far signed 120 MoUs with universities worldwide, facilitating student and faculty exchange programs, joint research projects, collaborative publications, conferences, symposiums, seminars, and field projects.

The department boasts a 100% placement rate in AI and Analytics, with students working in R&D, customer database systems, marketing research, HR database management, and related fields. Moreover, 3% of students manage family businesses, startups, and consultancy firms in AI and Analytics, while 4% are first-generation entrepreneurs and 11% continue with family businesses. About 44% of students pursue higher studies, and 41% secure placements in companies such as Polestar, Social Beat, Stripe, Tresvista, Northern Trust, Paperlite, MSL India, Intellipaat, ICICI Securities, ICICI Lombard, and APAR.

An Educational Administrator with a Doctorate and over 22 years of experience in Collegiate and University Education, specializing in Taxation. Holding Master’s degrees in Accounting, Finance, and Human Resources Management, they are highly regarded as a team leader by their superiors. They have successfully led teams of academicians, associate professors, and researchers. Their expertise includes managing accreditation processes for the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) and UK universities in Malaysia and Singapore. They have extensive experience handling government-funded projects in Taxation and Blockchain for Business Solutions. Known for their proficiency in Outcome-Based Education (OBE), they are also a certified OBE trainer. As a researcher, they hold four patents and have 27 publications in Scopus, Web of Science (WoS), and peer-reviewed journals. They have presented over 42 research papers at national and international conferences and have worked on more than six externally funded projects in various countries, focusing on blockchain, big data, and cryptocurrency.
