Educational Institutes have a critical role in providing the students all the necessary inputs required to make them global citizens. In today’s advanced world, Institutes are more of a facilitator of knowledge than just a provider of knowledge. Students need to be given all the knowledge, skills and ability so that they are able to appreciate the changes happening in the society and adapt to them. Thereby, one such institute which works day-in and day-out towards guiding the leaders of tomorrow through new technologies and innovations in the fields of Textile and Engineering in general – DKTE Society’s Textile & Engineering Institute. Based out of Ichalkaranji district of Kolhapur – Maharashtra, the tech hub enjoys a unique and prominent place amongst the engineering colleges that are engaged in education, training, research and consultancy in various disciplines of engineering. Presently, DKTE Society’s Textile & Engineering Institute has been catering to 3 Diploma Courses, 11 undergraduate courses (5 of them in Textiles & 6 in Engineering), 4 P.G. & Doctorate programs in Engineering & Textiles and 2 Management studies programs. Having around 3750 students and 202 faculty members making the engineering institute their second home, the institute is equipped with excellent infrastructure in terms of spacious buildings, ultra modern machinery and equipment in the laboratories, resources in the library, highly qualified and experienced faculty & management.
Academic Excellence and Innovation
DKTE Society’s Textile & Engineering Institute runs with a vision to be one of the leading institutes in technical education and research through academic excellence and innovation, to serve the needs of industry and society through continuing education programs, industry interaction, entrepreneurship development and incubation. The institute visions of nurturing learners with relevant and contemporary technical education by providing a conducive learning environment, to imbibe attitudes, skills and values to enable them to strive for excellence and perfection in the tasks undertaken to serve the needs of the industry and society, to develop researchers, technocrats, entrepreneurs and business leaders for an exciting and rewarding career. University Grants Commission, New Delhi and Shivaji University, Kolhapur have granted “Autonomous Status” to the institute & has received A+ Accreditation from NAAC with CGPA of 3.53. Also, all the eligible UG programmes have been accredited by NBA, New Delhi. Additionally, the hard work every stakeholder puts in towards making DKTE an institute for the gen-z, as a result the institute has emerged as the Winner of ‘Best Industry-Linked Engineering Institute-2015 & 2017’ twice in Chemical & Allied Engineering Institute Category in the nation-wide survey conducted jointly by AICTE and CII. The institute has also been honored as ‘The Best Educational Institute for Textile Engineering’ by the Ministry of Textiles, GoI, in 2013.
DKTE Society’s Textile & Engineering Institute Society’s Textile & Engineering Institute has a spacious, cozy and modern library, designed to meet the burning needs of the budding technocrats. The library is a treasure house of many important books, reference books, e-journals, e-books, Lab Manuals, Encyclopedias, Handbooks, Directories and Thesis. A specially designed multimedia library is also available for students. This library consists of a large number of CDs and Video cassettes. All the departments have got world-class laboratories/workshops. These laboratories/workshops are being utilized by students for conduct of regular practical, research projects, product engineering, consultancy services etc. The valuable hands-on training in laboratories, industry focused training inculcates much needed exposure and confidence in students to serve as technology leaders. The institute offers many opportunities to students to get involved in various extracurricular activities for overall development. “Our institute has various student chapters/associations associated with different branches. In our Institute, we have a Social Cell which deals with development of students’ community life through extracurricular activities” shares Prof. (Dr.) P. V. Kadole, the Director of the institute.
At DKTE Society’s Textile & Engineering Institute, engineering is not taught but preached, imbibing a strong sense of science, engineering, technology, and research among the students, via the innovative teaching methods followed at the institute. By using real world examples to teach even the basics & motivating full-fledged collaborative learning among the students, the onboard faculty members carry their expertise and experiences forward, ever-ready to pass on the mantle of knowledge to the engineers of tomorrow. In addition, the dedicated management and the faculty work together, in a constant rush towards updating their individual skills, thereby, helping the welfare and quality improvement of the institute and the students. The institute is also known for the various interdisciplinary activities it makes its students take part in with an aim of imparting practical knowledge considering the importance of employability in today’s society and in the engineering field. Also, all thanks to the impressive industry-academic relations the DKTE Society has, students get first-hand opportunities in getting to know about their future professions, well-in advance. With compulsory industrial training and visits, the institute tries its best to bridge this gap of practical exposure. Moreover, every year around 20 students get internship opportunities in machine manufacturing industries like Trützschler, Mayer & Cie, Indorama Synthetics and Foreign Universities like Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic and University of Applied Sciences, HOF University Germany.
To enrich industrial participation in engineering education, the institute has initiated developing infrastructure including sponsored / funded facilities such as TIFAC-CORE in Technical Textiles; Technology Business Incubation with thirst area in Garment and Textiles; Italian Technology Centre for Textile machines; VLSI Design laboratory, BOSCH Automation Laboratory; Entrepreneurship Development Cell; Smart e-foundry laboratory and Mitsubishi Automation Laboratory. To achieve enhanced industrial participation in engineering education, the Institute has established a Centre of excellence in nonwoven supported by the Ministry of Textiles. The Institute is actively involved in collaborative research with national as well as international industry / universities to remain as a leader in engineering and technical developments and sharing knowledge. A large number of collaborative MoUs are under operation. Institute emphasis on industrial and sponsored research projects which helps in promoting industry interactions and be associated with real life current industrial or social challenges. As one of the best practices and to bridge the gap between academics and industries, the institute is involving experts from industries in curriculum design and design of laboratory experiments in all disciplines. Many industries have started their certifications courses and training centers in the institute. “Our Students are working as one of the laboratory assignments on actual machines by visiting nearby industries, due to this type of interaction many industries and research organizations come forward and collaborate with the Institute Industries are actively involved in syllabus design, student projects, student training / internship, faculty training.” shares Prof. (Dr.) P. V. Kadole, the Director of the institute.
“In our institute, one faculty member is a mentor for a group of 15- 20 students. The mentor and students, meet at least one hour in every week as per the schedule in the timetable in a structured way. The faculty becomes more responsive towards students and helps them to improve their academic performance like class attendance, test results and participation in co-curricular activities, paper presentations, technical competition, and participation in social activities.” shares Prof. (Dr.) P. V. Kadole, the Director of the institute. Moreover, the institute has received grants in aid from the government through various schemes and projects. The institute gives equal opportunities to the students and entrepreneurs through the support of Government Funded Projects. Along with that, DKTE Society’s Textile & Engineering Institute has been awarded many prestigious projects by various Departments and Ministries of Govt. of India. These projects are worth more than Rs.52 Crores.
