Is AI in Education a Gift or a Curse?

0

There is of course a lot of talk on AI these days, and I am sure AI and ML is the future of literally everything. And this very much applies to education as well. From teachers using AI as EduTech Tools to create lesson plans or computing grades, to even letting students complete their projects, homeworks and a lot more, we have come a long way as technologically advanced beings.

But one thing we aren’t sure about is whether in the near future, we will be setting ethical standards with which AI can be used. Also, apart from this there are several aspects which result in AI in Education being considered a curse, rather than a welcome gift. So in brief I’ll list down a few points considering AI as both a gift and a curse, and in the end, let’s see which aspect wins over the other, and of course you can be the judge too.

AI as a Gift?

The biggest advantage of AI in Education will be towards student motivation and engagement. This will be achieved through AI algorithms or instant feedback and communication to provide personalized learning experience. AI can also be employed to enhance gamified learning which can further make learning enjoyable, engaging, and rewarding. Another significant pro of artificial intelligence in education is that it can help enhance student performance with increased feedback. Also, with AI in education, educational institutions can save on budget by cutting down resources required to operate efficiently, thereby increasing cost-effectiveness.

AI as a Curse?

For every single thing in this world to be balanced, one must have Pros and Cons, and AI is not an exception to it. Perhaps the biggest concern which isn’t still a reality luckily is the fear of job losses in every domain of education. As everything is slowly becoming automated we wouldn’t be requiring manforce to conduct certain tasks, which were traditionally being performed by trained labor. One more important factor which should be taken into consideration is the level of dependency technology will have on us. Despite engaging in regular activities, we still manage to dedicate good 3-4 hours of our day just on endless scrolling, and with complete AI take over, the screen time will increase manifold.

It’s time to conclude

As we approach the conclusion, it’s clear that the Pros and Cons of AI are significant. However, should you refrain from using AI in education? Absolutely not. Our world is evolving, and embracing the power of Artificial Intelligence is likely to yield more benefits than drawbacks. Anticipate its adoption not just in education but across all industries. The key is to use it in moderation and set a good example for students, ensuring they do not become overly dependent on AI. Confidence in your expertise, trust in your skills, and sound judgment are essential.
