In his 17th budget speech, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah unveiled major welfare initiatives for construction workers in Karnataka. He allocated ₹600 crore to establish 10 Government Tool Room & Training Centres (GTTCs) specifically for educating children of these workers. Managed by the Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (KBOCWWB), each centre will cost ₹60 crore to set up.
Additionally, the CM announced 62 new Labour Residential Schools for KBOCWWB-registered workers’ children in classes 6 to 12. These schools are slated to begin operations in the 2026-27 academic year, following the sanction of 42 similar schools in 2025-26. All facilities will operate from rented buildings to ensure quick rollout.
