Sangma has approved the disbursement of the second and final instalment of the Umbrella Post-Matric Scholarship, totaling ₹130 crore, benefiting nearly 70,000 students for the 2024-25 academic session. The announcement was made on Friday at a ceremony held in the district auditorium, attended by Education Minister Lakhmen Rymbui, Education Commissioner and Secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Aggarwal, and Director of Higher and Technical Education Hazel D. B. Sangma.

Addressing the gathering, CM Sangma highlighted that the Meghalaya government is using its own funds to provide the entire scholarship amount, as support from the central government is still pending. He noted that this decision aims to ease financial hardships for students by ensuring timely scholarship distribution.
