From creating talented professionals who drive the growth of multinational corporations to nurturing confident innovators with immense entrepreneurial zeal, Indian universities are coming of age and becoming powerhouses of academic excellence. As it has become evident that the mark of any successful university lies in the quality of values it delivers to the rest of the world, while ensuring quality education to one and all present on the campus. Thereby, in the process of finding that ideal university that provides a conducive environment of learning and growth, filled with opportunities to learn and experiment, educational aspirants of our country come across the brand of Oriental University.
The first self financed Private University of Indore established in 2011, the university was founded under the umbrella of the Oriental Group, which is the most sought – after name for quality education in Madhya Pradesh. Spread over 77 acres of lush green sprawling campus on Indore-Ujjain highway near the international airport and new proposed railway station, Oriental University (OU) gives back to society all-rounded personalities, offering diverse courses in Agriculture, Management, Law, Pharmacy, Education, Engineering and ITI.
“Education is all about creating an ambiance of academic freedom, where bright minds meet, discover and learn, and that’s what is our primary aim at Oriental”, shares – Prof (Dr.) Sunil K Somani, the Vice Chancellor of the university. Taking time out of his busy schedule and helping us and our fellow readers understand in detail the whole working ethos present at the university, the VC took us on a virtual/verbal tour, addressing all the questions directed towards him with ease. Adding to his above statement, and now telling us how Oriental stands out when compared to other universities across the length and breadth of our country, Prof. Sunil stated – “The curriculum adopted at OU is industry-specific, where OU plays a vital role in bridging the long gap between the extremely demanding corporate and the same old curriculum running in many universities”.
Preparing towards the future
Home to an exquisite infrastructure that houses spacious classrooms with the latest teaching aids, well-equipped laboratories, and workshops, OU combines innovative teaching and pioneering research in a highly collaborative environment that transcends traditional academic boundaries, marching forward to develop responsible professionals who could be easily deployed in the industry. Additionally, the university’s strong affection towards laying equal or perhaps more emphasis on the practical aspects of learning leads it towards always keeping its expansion mode on, right on track of helping students and the university display their excellence – effortlessly. Also, the research part of Oriental is so strong, that complete Phd penetration happens across every program, be it – engineering or pharma, where students become keen learners, with strong educational aspirations and goals.
Basing the whole education in and around the newly formulated New Education Policy 2020, all of the learning at OU is skill-based, motivating students to pick their respective niches and partake in skill-development programs, certifications and diplomas. The impressive state-of-the-art infrastructure, facilities and amenities too facilitate easy learning curves for all, staying in-sync with the market trends and demands, so that the university is always prepared for change and ready to give more to the students.
Also, highly qualified and flexible onboard faculty members help and guide students on both – personal as well as professional fronts, focusing on giving today’s education to students, competing head-to-head with universities and institutions, inside and outside India. Moreover, by promoting value for learning among all present at OU, self growth is common at the university in both the students and the faculty members. As the whole environment feels like a second home for all, a safe and stimulating environment present at the university gives rise to smooth academic operations, despite the global pandemic still being prevalent and waiting to strike again. The faculty members regularly are given opportunities for faculty members to attend webinars and seminars, or take up online courses from Harward, Michigan, Coursera, and many more. The university takes it up a notch by providing grants to the teachers for their research endeavours, where students too take part, when and where it is needed, in turn, getting prepared for the world outside, one step at a time.
These times of crisis have given rise to easy collaborations of the university with renowned educators and industry-giants of our country, making learning relentless and letting students get live exposure. The already existing industry-academia bond adds to the existing brand-value and excellence by providing brilliant opportunities in terms of internships, placements, and projects. As literacy and education are some strong indicators of development in a society, it is an established fact that the quality of Education is influenced by the quality of teachers, and thus, training of teachers becomes an important component for improving the quality of education. Keeping this in mind, the Oriental School of Education wing of OU through its best and curated B.Ed program provides a stimulating intellectual environment, where it provides exceptional opportunities and facilities for teachers’ development and brings out a perfect amalgamation of academic learning and practical teaching skills. Similarly dedicated programs are updated each year at OU, along with Doctoral Programs (Ph.D.), which are promoted by the Research Cell for upliftment of research and innovation. The Ph. D. Program in the University are offered by the faculty of Engineering & Technology, Faculty of Business Management, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Commerce, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Law and Faculty of Science, where the Dean Research Studies is mentoring Doctoral Studies and Research activities for various Ph.D. program run by the constituent Institutes by the University. All in all, slowly turning itself into a hub of rigorous classroom teaching, seminars, activities and industrial visits throughout the academic year, Oriental University since its inception has been a unique identity in the field of university education, and by the hardwork and dedication it continues to put in day in and day out – the journey of growth and development seems like an endless journey at the Oriental University, right on pursuit of societal development.
