A Journey from Industry to Academia
Prof. Nilanjan Chattopadhyay’s career began in the corporate sector as a junior consultant with a global firm, but his passion for academia led him to pursue a different path. After earning his MBA with specializations in Finance and Information Systems, he chose to enter teaching instead of pursuing a corporate role. He started at ICFAI Business School (IBS) Kolkata, where he taught Information Systems and contributed to ERP training modules on Oracle Financials.
Over the years, he held faculty and administrative positions at prestigious institutions, including the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, IMT Ghaziabad, SP Jain Institute of Management and Research Mumbai, and Manipal University Dubai. As Chairman of Placements at IMT Ghaziabad, he led recruitment initiatives that secured top-tier job placements for students. At Manipal University Jaipur, he focused on expanding student enrollment, faculty development, and corporate relations, while at Bennett University, he played a key role in student admissions, faculty recruitment, and program innovation.
Taking up the Mantle
With extensive experience in academic leadership, industry collaboration, and institutional growth, he was appointed Vice Chancellor of Jagran Lakecity University (JLU) in 2024. As Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chattopadhyay aims to strengthen academic excellence, industry partnerships, and student-centric learning. His vision is to position JLU as a leader in innovative and inclusive education, equipping students with future-ready skills. His immediate priorities include curriculum innovation, enhancing interdisciplinary learning, and integrating cutting-edge technology into the curriculum across JLU’s 14 schools under four faculties.
Strengthening JLU’s Global Presence
JLU has already built a strong global presence, with over 50 partner universities through its association with the Association of Universities in Asia and the Pacific (AUAP), where JLU’s Chancellor, Shri Hari Mohan Gupta, serves as President for the year 2025-26. This opens doors for international student exchanges and collaborations. Recognizing the importance of international exposure, Prof. Chattopadhyay is driving several initiatives to enhance JLU’s global standing. These include expanding collaborations with leading universities to facilitate student and faculty exchanges, introducing immersion programs, study tours, and internships in diverse cultural and professional settings, and attracting international students and faculty to promote cross-cultural learning.
A Passion for Learning
Outside of his professional role, Prof. Chattopadhyay has a deep passion for traveling, photography, and Hindustani classical music. He views travel as a profound way to learn, offering lessons in culture, history, and human connection. As he reflects, “Wherever you go, go with all your heart. Every journey brings new experiences and perspectives that shape my understanding of the world, allowing me to grow both personally and professionally.” Photography enhances this passion, enabling him to capture and preserve these moments as lasting sources of inspiration. His love for classical music provides both creative stimulation and personal solace. To maintain a balance between his professional and personal life, he integrates these interests as moments of mindfulness and rejuvenation. He advocates for mental well-being and lifelong learning, encouraging students and faculty to explore interests beyond their academic responsibilities.

Prof. Chattopadhyay aims to establish Jagran Lakecity University as a leading institution in higher education. His strategy focuses on expanding research initiatives to tackle global challenges, aligning programs with international standards to enhance recognition, and promoting student-centric learning through experiential education, leadership training, and community engagement.
