From the Scratch
Born in a quaint place in Pala, Kottayam (Kerala), Rev. Dr. Shaji John holds an impressive academic background. He completed his SSLC from the Board of Public Examination, Kerala in 1984 with 75%, and his Higher Secondary from Kerala University in 1986 with 81% in Humanities.
He earned his undergraduate degree in Philosophy from Kerala University in 1991, and his postgraduate degree in Political Science from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam in 2000 with 85%. He also cleared the UGC-CSIR-NET in Political Science in 2001 and was awarded a PhD from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam in 2014 for his study on “Peasant Movements in Kerala – A Study of INFAM.
As the Principal
Rev. Dr. Shaji John, the principal of Alphonsa College, has been part of the institution for 19 years. He considers himself fortunate to be associated with a university that was the premier educational institution in the region when he joined. Even today, students affirm that the college provides an excellent learning environment and ample opportunities for co-curricular activities. Dr. John is delighted to receive such positive feedback about the college.
As the principal of Alphonsa College, Rev. Dr. Shaji John practices a collaborative leadership style, emphasizing active participation from both faculty and students to create a favorable learning environment. His primary goal is to foster moral integrity among students, ensuring they excel in various aspects of life. Under his leadership Alphonsa College promotes ethical advancement and provides conditions that enhance students’ lives, where they are encouraged to pursue intellectual and mental growth, and to develop their talents.
One of Rev. Dr. Shaji John’s duties is inspiring college students to pursue rewarding and meaningful endeavors. His goal is to help students develop self-discipline so they may indulge in meaningful courseworks, have happy lives, and participate in student governance. His main objective is to promote everyone’s happiness and wellbeing within the campus community.
Leadership towards Inclusivity and Prosperity
At Alphonsa College, Rev. Dr. Shaji John plays a pivotal role in ensuring the institution adheres to industry best practices through a carefully crafted curriculum that is regularly updated to meet industry demands. Dr. John is actively involved in promoting inclusivity by spearheading initiatives such as providing scholarships and financial assistance to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. He collaborates with a range of stakeholders, including agencies, parents, and religious institutions, to ensure equal opportunities for all students. On a Personal Note
A Cancer patient himself, Dr. John has been a brave survivor and attributes all his dedication and hard work despite his condition to God. And on a philanthropic note, the principal of Alphonsa College regularly visits other cancer patients, and counsels them and guides them on their journey of recovery, instilling in them a sense of strength and courage.
