According to Jagadesh Kumar, chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), students with four-year undergraduate degrees can now immediately apply for the NET and pursue a PhD.

In order to pursue a PhD program, students must earn at least 75% of their four-year undergraduate degree, or equivalent grades, with or without a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).

A master’s degree with at least 55% of the possible points was formerly required in order to be eligible for the National Eligibility Test (NET).

This year, the test will not be computer-based; rather, it will be administered offline. On June 16, tests will be given to every topic.
