Came into existence under the REVA University Act, 2012, REVA University has been founded by the RECT (Rukmini Educational Charitable Trust) holding the sole vision and philanthropy of its Founder Chancellor, Dr. P Shyama Raju. “The School of Architecture, REVA University has been established to enable the new-gen architecture aspirants to gain real-time hands-on knowledge and ample exposure, leading them to develop in sync with the current industry demands and requirements” says Dr. P. Shyama Raju, Chancellor, REVA University. The School also has the backing of DivyaSree Developers Pvt. Ltd., which was also established by Dr.P. Shyama Raju- a flagship company that has created a landmark in the history of the cityscape of South India with its remarkable designs and structures.
Given the strong association with DivyaSree, the students of the School of Architecture at REVA gain substantial opportunities to interact with the best architects of the country and indulge in lots of practical activities. Dr. P Shyama Raju pinpoints, “The School of Architecture at REVA University adopts hands-on learning, dynamic curriculum, technological integration and live case studies for all kinds of projects through DivyaSree builders.” The School conducts comprehensive B. Arch courses and Ph.D. in Architecture. The School is approved by the Council of Architecture and stringently follows the norms set by COA. Moreover, apart from the regular course, the School offers professional core, professional elective, open elective, skill-based and skill enhancement courses. ” The School also takes extra effort every year to organize eight skill-based programs and many hands-on workshops in tune with the architecture curriculum,” adds Dr. P Shyama Raju.
Comprehending the evolving demand of the industry, the School makes it a point to involve the Board of Studies where professionals, researchers, and academicians sit together to update the curriculum needs. “Our faculty members travel worldwide and analyze the curriculum followed by eminent Universities,” shares Dr. P Shyama Raju. The School boasts of a range of academic collaborations with prestigious institutions such as UniversitatPolitechnica Catalunya, Barcelona and ‘University of Salford, Manchester letting the students obtain an education which is of global standards’. Despite going through a robust academic training during their course tenure, the students of the School go through soft-skill training organized by Placement & Training Cell of REVA University which helps them to attain employability skills. “A minimum of one site visit for each semester, a minimum of 2 field case studies, site visits, has been made compulsory for our students. Besides, the School also arranges one international trip and national trip every year across all semesters,” adds Dr. P Shyama Raju. Students at REVA are exposed to professionalism and understand the working methodology of the professional world by participating in regular reviews of studio courses, lecture series and expert talks conducted by experienced academicians and architects.
The School of Architecture, REVA University, considers its team of faculty members as the backbone of the entire teaching and learning process. ” The faculty that the School is endowed with comprises best teaching professionals who hold diverse specializations from various parts of the country and abroad. When it comes to teaching and learning process, collaborative studio exercise with on-field documentation for courses like conservation, rural documentation are of primary focus,” opines Dr. P Shyama Raju. The students moreover, experience tab-based assessments at REVA, hence ensuring digital technology is been merged considerably with finer skills of drawing.
Dr. P Shyama Raju says, “Our students get access to state-of-the-art campus which encompasses facilities like well-equipped studios, exhibition spaces, modern laboratories, Gym, Foodcourt, sports ground, an auditorium with a seating capacity of 1500 and Rangasthala with a seating capacity of 1000, just to name a few.” Students are also given the room to take part in co-curricular and extracurricular activities in the form of several clubs present in the campus from which they can choose their interested one. Some of the clubs that REVA operates includes LITWITS (Literature), Media & Dramatics Club, and Sustainability & Environment Club.
“The School of Architecture, REVA, is a member of professional bodies like Indian Institute of Architects and the School celebrated World Architecture Day in October. Every semester the School of Architecture publishes a magazine called ARCHRONICLES, which includes writings of the School,” proudly adds Dr. P Shyama Raju. In near future, the School is planning to become one of the innovative architecture schools across the country, apart from the focus on research and consultancy activities. The School is collaborated with top-notch universities in the world to create pathways for students to focus on global education.
