Karnataka’s higher education sector is set to benefit from stronger internationalisation efforts as the state government engages in bilateral talks with the United Kingdom. The discussions focused on enhancing academic collaborations and expanding scholarship opportunities for students from Karnataka.

On the immediate agenda is the growth of existing programmes such as the Chevening Scholarships and the Scholars for Outstanding Undergraduate Talent (SCOUT) initiative. Currently, five students from Karnataka are Chevening recipients, while 30 have benefitted under the SCOUT programme.

To advance these opportunities, Karnataka’s Higher Education Minister M.C. Sudhakar and Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil are in London at the invitation of UK universities. The bilateral talks, facilitated by the British Council, were held on Monday with Professor Sir Steve Smith, the UK government’s International Education Champion.
