Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has announced a 7.5% reservation for students from rural government schools in professional higher education courses, including medicine and engineering. The announcement came during his Independence Day address at Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground in Bengaluru on Saturday.
Alongside the reservation, the state government will roll out the Sahaya-Hasta, Hosa-Hasta scheme for rural students. The initiative is intended to boost access to professional higher education for those who study in government schools in rural parts of the state.
The CM’s announcement, however, did not spell out specifics such as eligibility criteria, the admission process, or a timeline for when the reservation will take effect.
