The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) of Canada said earlier this year that a maximum of 606,000 study visa applications will be handled in 2024. However, according to information provided by the ed-tech startup ApplyBoard, the IRCC processed 127,700 new study permits for the second quarter of 2024, which ran from April to June. By contrast, in Q2 of last year, around 238,800 applications for study permits were processed, a 54 percent decrease from the same period the previous year.
According to an examination of the statistics, there will be 39% fewer new study permits issued in 2024 than in 2023. Furthermore, from January to June 2024, fewer than 114,000 additional study permits for post-secondary education were authorized, as opposed to approximately 220,000 during the same time frame.
