Flexible degree programs now allowed, according to UGC

In place of the typical length of their degree programs, undergraduate students may soon have the choice to shorten or lengthen their study periods. In a meeting this week, the UGC authorized the SOPs to provide the Extended Degree Program (EDP) and Accelerated Degree Program (ADP). Stakeholders will now have the opportunity to comment on the draft rules.

For academic and hiring reasons, the degrees will be considered on an equal footing with degrees of standard length, even though they will include a self-contained notation stating that the academic criteria needed in a standard duration have been accomplished in a shorter or longer duration.

Prominent international colleges also provide students the choice to complete their degrees sooner or later than the allotted time.
