According to the Ministry of Education’s UDISE data, school enrolment across India decreased by 37 lakh in 2023-24 compared to the previous year. The Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) Plus, a data aggregation platform managed by the ministry, collects and compiles school education data nationwide.
In 2022-23, the total number of enrolled students was 25.17 crore, which dropped to 24.80 crore in 2023-24. During this period, the enrolment of girls declined by 16 lakh, while that of boys decreased by 21 lakh.
