Vice chancellors renowned for their leadership in excellence prioritize merit above all else, eliminating favoritism, nepotism, and personal biases. They uphold a commitment to “Merit, Merit, and Merit” as the sole mantra of governance. Successful leaders defy the status quo, fostering creativity and innovation. Dr. Krishna Nath Pandey exemplifies this ethos as Vice Chancellor of Sunrise University, steering it towards success with his expertise and dedication to excellence.

From the Scratch

Born in a small village in eastern Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Pandey’s father passed away when he was just two and a half years old, leaving his family in challenging circumstances due to the Zamindari abolition. Despite this, he began his education at a local school and later moved to a town for higher secondary education. From there, he pursued university studies, eventually earning a scholarship for his PhD in English at IIT Delhi, although he found the fellowship less appealing.

Journey towards Academics

Dr. Pandey’s career began with roles in HR and administration at Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd, NTPC, and the Ministry of HRD, Govt of India. Additionally, he has experience teaching English language and literature at Tribhuvan University (Kathmandu, Nepal), following the advice of Professor Narang of JNU. As the Vice Chancellor

The major challenge of the Vice Chancellor of Sunrise University Dr. Krishna Nath was to verify the degree before it was recognized by the UGC. He changed the compass of the university from just producing degree holders to producing employment competent people. Therefore, he could attain recognition in the form of UGC and thus promote Sunrise University on the international level which could be considered as one of the major milestones.

Staying abreast with the situation and utilizing the MOOCs, Dr. Pandey was able to maintain the integrity of learning during the lockdown. He ensured the students can smoothly transition back for on campus learning by 2022 by delivering the learning curve in theoretical and practical parts.

Down the line Dr. Pandey’s target for Sunrise University is to get international accreditation and recognition so that the university attracts students from around the world. He wants to see it as something beyond a local university but one that is a center of global learning and practices.
